Position: Product Development Manager

Reports to: Vice President Product Development & Innovation

Location: Corsicana Mattress Company Headquarters, Dallas, TX (Note: Will also allocate a good amount of time at the CMC plant located in Corsicana, TX)

The Company:

Corsicana Mattress Company is the largest, low cost manufacturer of private label mattresses and foundations (box springs) in the U.S. It operates 11 manufacturing facilities in ten states strategically located throughout the country (see below for locations). The large majority of products are in the promotional segment with price points generally at or below $500 per unit at retail. The Company’s products include innerspring and specialty foam mattresses and rigid and semi-flex box springs in all standard sizes and common styles. Corsicana’s customer base of over 5,000 accounts consists of both small independent retailers and large national bedding and furniture chains. Increased market penetration, driven by efficient manufacturing processes and national scale, has led to compounded annual sales growth of 15% from 1994 to 2017. The Company is profitable with a strong balance sheet and has plans to make strategic acquisitions to strengthen its position in the market place. Summary/Objective

This newly created role of Product Development Manager, will support corporate growth objective by introducing new products and technologies to drive sales. Will also develop new mattress products/programs that are focused on key customer needs and requirements. Additionally, the role will focus on the reduction of product line complexity through the efficient development and elimination of product models.

Essential Functions

  • Manage new product development projects from concept through commercialization.
  • Develop and specify prototype sleep surfaces and adjacent product concepts based on input from Marketing and Product Development stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with fabric and cover designers to provide value aesthetics to Company’s mattress products.
  • Manage and validate the production of high quality and Market sample mattress products.
  • Evaluate and test design to ensure and test new materials and processes.
  • Work with plant operations to address any quality issues or cost reduction projects.

Work Environment

Will work in the Innovation Center, an open creative workspace that fosters collaboration and teamwork.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the candidate is routinely required and expected to talk and hear. The employee is frequently asked to stand, walk, and reach out using arms and legs. The employee must frequently move or lift 10 lbs. and will occasionally be required to lift items 25-50 lbs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time position with a minimum of 40 hours per week, with occasional busy periods around Market and key Customer visits.

Travel

10% travel. Would include occasional supplier or customer visits. Also, the position will require time be allocated at the Corsicana, TX plant, located approximately 50 miles from the Dallas HQ.

Required Education and Experience

BS in Technical Degree Preferred. Will consider applicable industry experience in lieu of.

Prefer 5-10 years of hands on Product Development Management experience within the Mattress products industry. Will also consider experience within the general furniture industry sector.

Relocation

The Company will consider relocating candidates from other parts of the country. However, candidates must reside in the greater USA area of the country.
