Full Job Description

WHAT IT IS:

The Mighty Union has renovated the old Carpenter’s Hall at 400 Josephine Street into The Carpenter Hotel. The Carpenter’s Hall was built in 1948 on the edge of Zilker Park. It was operated continuously as Local 1266’s Union Hall until the Fall of 2014, when they moved to their new digs on I-35. We love the old Hall and the pecan trees and are trying our best to stay true to the spirit of the place. We make up a lot as we go along, but we know some things for sure. We operate a full-service bar and restaurant that’s open every single day, Carpenters Hall (they also take care of pool and room service and events) Our cafe, Hot L Coffee has coffee, tea and takeaway snacks. We throw public and private parties in our event space, the Q-Hut. There are 93 hotel rooms that we do our best to keep filled and have come up with a bunch of cool souvenirs for people to buy.

WHO WE ARE:

We’re a small team, but growing- a little more than a dozen folks at this point, and not a very formal bunch. Everyone helps each other out. Our priority is to get the feeling right. If we can do that, everything else follows. We call our small management company, The Mighty Union. We do the whole shebang: concept, branding, design, management and PR. We want to work with good, like-minded people, and put them in a position to do what they do best. We are not here to reinvent the hotel, but to readdress its conventions, to keep them fresh, energized, human.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Along the lines of what we said above; ‘…if we get the feel right, everything will follow from that.’ This role more than any other confers the importance of this tenant. The Director of Rooms will be our lead for all things related to guest, staff, and in room experience on the “hotel” side of the business. The feel is everything and building a culture of cohesion across property is key. Areas of Responsibility include direct Front Office Management, as well as, leading the Housekeeping and Maintenance Teams. Collaboration with Revenue Management, Sales Team and F&B efforts are also in your wheelhouse. Given the size and nature of The Carpenter this may be the opportunity for current Front Office Managers and Executive Housekeepers to make a leap and learn how to manage multiple departments, assistant managers and budgets.

  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred, but not required.

WHAT WE’RE OFFERING:

Compensation based upon qualifications; 2+ weeks paid vacation, health insurance after completing an introductory period. Post-offer/pre-employment background checks for all executive level positions.
