Responsible for managing construction projects, coordinating with plant operations and maintenance functions of the facilities, equipment, and off-site facilities. Provides analysis, counsel, advice and recommendations for cost – effective construction processes, plant operation and maintenance. Develops construction policies and procedures; directly or indirectly supervises department employees. Coordinates construction projects, both internally and externally, to assure that they meet the standards of Mercy.
Work requires a thorough knowledge of management practices at a level generally acquired through a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
Five years of progressively responsible experience in plant engineering, construction or equivalent required, with a minimum of two (2) years at department head level (may be concurrent).
Work requires knowledge of construction processes, plant operations, personnel and material utilization and cost effectiveness, at a level generally acquired through five years of progressively more responsible, related experience.
Must have a high level of interpersonal and communication skills to provide effective leadership and to deal with various external publics.
Analytical ability required for developing policies and procedures, budget preparation, cost and feasibility studies and problem resolution.
Knowledge of local, state and federal compliance issues related to hospital facility standards.
Awareness of safety laws including those implemented by OSHA.
Knowledge of computer software including use Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience in computer aided design.
Knowledge and implementation of conceptual budget pricing and timelines for proposed new or retro fitted projects.
Must have the ability to work on projects requiring focus on specific details with a high degree of integrity, self motivation and confidentiality.
Ability to work with all cultures and populations.
Knowledge of mechanical HVAC and electrical systems.
