Pay: $16-18 ph DOE

Works in Coordination with: BOD Equine Representatives (BOD/ER)
Summary:
Equines: Responsible for the health and well-being of every therapy horse including but not limited to: individual feed programs, medications, appropriate housing, clean water, blanketing, fly control, parasite program, turnout and bring in, stall and paddock cleaning, manure management, facility cleaning and repair. Horse maintenance records and consultation with Lead Adaptive Riding (LARI) Instructor for proper work schedule. Work directly with BOD/ERâs to problem solve behavior or soundness issues, schedule routine and emergency veterinary care, massage schedule, schedule farrier care, deal with chronic issues and injuries. Procurement and delivery of feed and all other Equine specific needs.
Responsibilities:
Evaluate and monitor equine behavior, recognize unsoundness and ailments and communicate observation/concerns to appropriate person(s) [LARI & BOD/ER]
o
Responsible for keeping horses in-tune assuring that all handlers following protocols
Continually screen, evaluate and select equines for clients in coordination with LARI
Maintain tack
- Respect each horse and his/her individual needs and maintain the most suited, healthiest and happiest herd of equine therapy horses in the industry.
Supervise/train/recruit Equine Volunteers to perform:
o
Keep horsesâ water fresh at an appropriate level and water tubs clean
o
Turnout & bring horses in from paddocks or pastures
Therapy horse care including grooming, clipping, hoof cleaning, blanketing & fly control, medicating as directed, recognizing unsoundness or other ailments and communicating those observations/concerns to the BOD/ER, LARI, and ED.
Work with Lead Instructor to resolve client/horse issues and any equipment fitting concerns
Monitor feed consumption and condition of the individual therapy horses
Facility: Responsible for overseeing the maintenance, care and operation of HART facility and related grounds as follows:
Responsibilities:
Barn Care including stall cleaning, manure management, facility cleaning, and some arena care, other light maintenance of facility
Grounds maintenance and upgrades to include:
o
trails, hay field, and pastures
o
rodent and varmint control
mud management and weed control
o
Water conservation techniques and systems
- Maintenance and repair of all equipment including tractor, implements, mower, sprayers, carts, etc
Taking inventory of horse feed and facility supplies weekly and reporting to ED and BOD/ER
Winterizing water system during sub-freezing temperatures
Experience with the following basic repairs and maintenance:
o
Carpentry
o
Plumbing
o
Electrical
o
Fencing, rail and gates
Supervision Facility vendor and contract coordination and site as needed
Additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Experience and Skills:
Knowledge of horse psychology
Basic equine health knowledge (sickness & lameness)
Trouble shooting electric fence problems
Ability to work with a variety of breeds and equine personalities
A strong work ethic
A great team player
Punctuality
Work independently, but know when to ask questions
Have great attention to detail
Have good time management skills
Tractor/implement and mower experience
Therapy horse conditioning skills helpful: ground work, lunging or riding at walk/trot/canter, desensitizing practices
Abilities:
This is a physical and strenuous job which demands working in adverse weather conditions.
Employee must be able to physically handle lots of bending and twisting, pushing, pulling, lifting
Requires the ability to repeatedly lift up to 75 pounds
Requires repetitive movements
Requires confidence/experience in dealing with horses
- Requires a basic understanding of facility maintenance including conditions which can be dangerous to horses or people and the ability to repair/remove/change the dangerous condition
