Her Justice stands with women living in poverty in New York City by recruiting and mentoring volunteer lawyers to provide free legal help to address individual and systemic legal barriers. Her Justice is looking to add a Pro Bono Manager to our team who will further our organizationâs goal of linking low-income women with volunteer lawyers in the areas of family, matrimonial, and immigration law.
Responsibilities: The Pro Bono Manager will play a pivotal role in matching clients with volunteer attorneys through a variety of activities, including:
- Working as part of the Senior Legal Team to ensure legal department goals are met
- Supervising Pro Bono Coordinators and the Project Coordinator to ensure case placement and training goals are met
- Developing strategic vision for pro bono work and creating a variety of ways to deliver pro bono opportunities to lawyers in firms and in corporations
- Evaluating program effectiveness by
- Using metrics to ensure that pro bono programs are serving clients and engaging pro bono volunteers efficiently and
- Overseeing quality control procedures and troubleshooting for both clients and volunteer attorneys
- Managing our weekly Legal Helpline
- Managing legal volunteer and intern recruitment, onboarding, training and evaluation
- Working with the development team at Her Justice to coordinate outreach to firms and corporations and promote the values of Her Justice services
- Working with legal department staff to meet individual and department goals
- Working with the Legal Director on grant applications and grant reporting
- Participating in community outreach, media relations, and other forms of marketing and public education
Qualifications:
- 4 year college degree; JD not required
- Minimum of 5 years work experience in related field
- Supervision experience, required, and in a legal setting, preferred
- Experience in a non-profit setting, preferred
- Experience working with indigent clients, survivors of domestic violence and clients from diverse backgrounds and communities, preferred
- Excellent analytical and writing skills, and strong oral communication skills
- Ability to think strategically and creatively, and to take initiative
- Proven track record managing multiple assignments, prioritizing plans to achieve goals
- Experience working collaboratively with high-level professionals
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Strong time management, organizational and planning skills
- Strong inter-personal and leadership skills
- Computer proficiency- Microsoft Office and database systems; experience with Legal Server strongly preferred
- A demonstrated passion for social justice
Salary: Salary up to mid $70ks, commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical insurance, 401K plan and liberal vacation policy.
