LPN – Licensed Practical Nurse for Forsyth House Assisted Living

POSITION: RESIDENT CARE DIRECTOR

DEPARTMENT: RESIDENT CARE

REPORTS TO: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Responsible for the planning, organization, direction,

supervision and evaluation of all the Resident Care services provided in the community. Ensures the Resident Care Department compliance with federal, state and local regulations and

implementation of the community’s core clinical programs. Ensures maintenance of records

and reports concerning resident care. Ensures the orientation and training of Resident Care

services personnel. Manages the Resident Care Department within budget. Follows all

Regency House policies and procedures.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities of this position involve significant

physical activities including standing, lifting (up to 60 pounds unassisted), bending,

stooping, pushing, pulling and twisting. The tasks on this position description marked

with an asterisk (*) are those that regularly require these physical activities. All

Associates may be required to provide lifting and transfer assistance

to residents

Essential Functions

1. Supervisory Responsibilities

· Makes daily work assignments.

· *Directs the work of assigned Associates.

· Schedules lunch and rest breaks

· Authorizes overtime.

· Reassigns Associates from one area to another area as community needs dictate.

· Prepares written evaluations of assigned Associates.

· Enforces community policies with authority to issue disciplinary action as per policy.

· Authority to suspend Associates for rules violation.

· Validates time records.

· Interviews applicants that will be assigned to his/her area of responsibility.

· Receives and handles employee complaints.

· *Participates in training programs and assists in orientation of new staff.

2. Plans, organized, directs, supervises, and evaluates all Resident Care services provided

in the community to achieve desired clinical and financial outcomes.

3. Ensures that community is in compliance with all regulatory requirements and

community standards.

4. May direct staff in absence of the Executive Director.

5. Coordinates physician’s visits as required.

6. Ensures necessary equipment, supplies, and staffing are available for the

delivery of the prescribed resident care.

7. Completes rounds of the community at least daily to ensure compliance with all

policies, procedures and regulations.

8. Is responsible for recruitment, training, supervision, scheduling, and personnel

issues in the Resident Care Department.

9. Ensures the maintenance of licensure status for all Resident Care Associates.

10. Manages the Resident Care Department budget.

11. Works with Veritas InCare personnel to continuously strive to improve the quality of

resident/patient care.

12. Coordinates Infection Control, Performance Improvement, and other concurrent

review functions of the community.

13. Represents the community in various professional and community activities.

14. Participates in marketing planning, activities, and evaluation.

15. Ensures customer service standards for the Resident Care department.

16. Ensures written evaluations are prepared as required.

17. Interviews applicants that will be assigned to his/her area of responsibility.

18. Treats all residents, visitors, and staff with courtesy.

19. *Performs physical activities including standing, lifting (up to 60 pounds

unassisted), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and twisting.

20. *Attends and participates in in-service training, performance improvement (“PI”)

committees and other meetings as scheduled and directed.

21. *Works overtime, holiday and weekend hours as scheduled.

22. Follows community dress and hygiene policies.

23. Safety

· Knows and follows community rules.

· *Demonstrates proper use of equipment. Reports equipment needs or

repairs.

· Follows and enforces community smoking policies.

· Reports and documents any incidents or accidents of residents, staff or

visitors.

· *Performs duties, which may include transportation of residents, as assigned

in Community Disaster Plan.

· Uses required protective equipment.

· Follows infection control standards, policies and procedures.

24. Resident Rights

· Knows Resident Rights. Helps the residents exercise and/or protect

their rights.

· Reports resident/patient complaints to management.

· Maintains confidentiality of resident/patient information.

25. HIPAA

· Follows and adheres to policies and procedures implementing HIPAA requirements

for the privacy and security of protected health information.

· Uses and/or discloses only minimum amount of Protected Health Information

necessary to complete assigned tasks.

Other Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned and consistent with level of preparation and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

1. Current RN or LPN license in the State.

2. Prefer previous nurse management experience of at least three years.

3. Must have good financial and management skills.

4. Must be able to adapt to a flexible work schedule and occasional overnight travel.

5. Ability to relate positively, effectively and appropriately with residents, families,

vendors, volunteers and other community staff. Possess special interest in,

and a positive attitude about, working with long-term care residents and the elderly.

6. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

7. Meets all health requirements, as required by law.
