Responsible for providing strategic oversight and support for the system-wide development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of Sentara’s patient safety program. Advises senior leadership on strategies and methods for improving the culture of safety and performance excellence. Provides matrix leadership to division based patient safety consultants/specialists. Provides direction for system programs for causal analysis including coaching of facility based root cause analysts, providing training programs and evaluation of program effectiveness. Provides direction for work process error proofing and simplification, to include training on methods and tools. Defines and manages the process for a system-wide safety measurement program including leading, real time, and lagging measurements. Provides direction related to accreditation and other regulatory agency patient safety requirements. Supports advancement of patient safety, providing presentations and submitting articles for publication. Works closely with system wide clinical effectiveness, risk management and customer service programs to assure coordination and integration of these initiatives.
