This position is an anticipated vacancy. It is expected to be vacant by 01/04/2020. However, the current incumbent has a right to rescind their retirement, leave, or resignation up until the day of the expected vacancy date. Your hire will not be confirmed until the position is vacated, and you may start the year as a Long-Term Substitute if the position does not become vacant by the start of the school year.
The Director of Digital Learning works in collaboration with members of the BPS Technology team to support schools in the integration of technology in the curriculum and to support teaching and learning for all students. As part of a highly motivated team, the Director works with a variety of cross-functional teams on curriculum development appropriately supported by technology across all disciplines. S/he works in collaboration with various Academic Departments to support the day-to-day operations of digital curriculum and major technology initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Works as part of a highly motivated team of Instructional Technology staff to oversee the development, implementation, and support for all technology programs in the Boston Public Schools.
- Oversees Digital Literacy/Computer Science curriculum development as part of an inter-departmental team, collaborating with all members of the Teaching & Learning departments.
- Oversees day-to-day operations of the Digital Learning Team, including
- Oversees staff and team scheduling
- Ensures projects are completed in a timely fashion and on budget
- Supports, develops, and evaluates staff in the Digital Learning Team
- Develops and administers grants to support school/business/community partnerships as appropriate
- Works closely with all members of the BPS Technology Department to support technology policy and implementation of new and existing technologies
- Assists with communication of technology related projects, initiatives, and changes to the general BPS community
- Assumes other related responsibilities as requested
Qualifications – Required:
- BA/BS Degree in Education, Computer Science or related field
- Massachusetts Teaching Certification
- Three (3) years urban education experience
- Supervisory experience
- Experience in collaboration with higher education, business community, and/or government institutions
- Grant writing experience
- Demonstrated leadership qualities, strong interpersonal skills (written and verbal), supervisory skills and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with staff, students, teachers, and administrators to effectively support users of technology across the district
- Ability to coordinate professional development activities, curriculum integration, technology planning and support for the district
- Strong organizational ability
Qualifications – Preferred:
- Masters Degree in Education, Computer Science, or related field
- Three (3) years experience developing and coordinating instructional technology programs
- Three (3) years supervisory experience
