Mon-Fri 40 HRS/WK 8:00am-5:00pm

DEFINITION: Under direction of the Director of Energy Strategies and Solutions develops and implements programs, plans and projects for on-going renewable energy and distributed energy resources (DER) programs. Performs a variety of professional, technical and administrative duties to support utility and distributed renewable energy and storage, environmental, customer service and customer education programs.

The candidate will support and develop renewable energy and DER policy, market, financing, and regulatory projects through data collection, literature reviews, industry interviews, writing, coding, and spreadsheet analysis

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Develop short, medium, and long term plans for renewable energy and DER including solar, wind, geothermal, electric vehicles and battery strategies to enable the City to meet its goals of 100% renewable energy for 2030.

Lead the ongoing stakeholder engagement process and development of public policy to support the initiative. Conduct active research regarding best practices. Write management policies and plans for renewable energy, DER, and environmental concerns. Design, implement and manage local environmental conservation projects. Conduct public outreach and prepare promotional materials regarding renewable energy and energy storage. Respond to citizen, employee, and City Council inquiries, complaints and requests in regards to renewable energy and battery storage. May solicit, prepare, and administer grants. Manage consulting contracts with environmental and engineering firms. May assist with preparation and maintenance of program area’s operating budgets. Coordinate, lead, and serve on task forces and teams related to DER and renewable strategy. Provide reports and recommendations to the management and Council on renewable energy, battery storage and resource management. Provide technical expertise and research on renewable energy and battery storage issues. Collect and analyze data and survey results and associated reports. Maintain databases and other records in support of the day to day operations. May assist in activities related to energy issues at the local, state or federal level. May coordinate regulatory compliance program; represents the City on environmental management projects with other government agencies. May oversee the activities of contract staff, where applicable.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in typical office environment. Requires light (up to 15 lbs.) lifting and carrying, frequent reading, use of math, and reasoning. Requires ability to communicate in oral and written form both one-to-one and before groups. Occasional travel to attend meetings, conduct and attend training/presentations, and conduct energy audits at customer sites. Requires frequent customer contact, multiple concurrent tasks, maintaining confidentiality of customer account information, and working closely with others.

QUALIFICATIONS: A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, planning, architecture, engineering, construction management, or related field from an accredited college or university; A minimum of three years related experience; Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strongly prefer experience with at least one renewable technology (wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, etc)
