The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is looking for an experienced
Project Manager
with demonstrated success in leading and managing multiple complex construction projects.
In November 2018, the City of Tucson voters approved Proposition 407, a $225 million bond package dedicated to improving City of Tucson park amenities to include playgrounds, sports fields, pools, splash pads, and recreation centers, as well as improving City of Tucson connections to include pedestrian pathways, bicycle pathways, and pedestrians and bicycle safety. General Description
Essential Functions
Occasionally directs helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, volunteers or temporary employees and may temporarily act in a higher capacity.
Manages and directs complex projects by assigning work, forecasting timelines and project parameters, reviewing and approving plans and documents, devising solutions to problems, deploying resources, ensuring projects are completed effectively and efficiently within budget timeframes, studying and approving agreements, disbursing payments, conducting and attending meetings with associated parties.
Prepares forecasts of needed funds, assists in the development and implementation of budgets, monitors project budgets, authorizes expenditures and budget allocations, reviews budget documents and prepares reports and communications.
Collaborates with intra and inter-departmental personnel, develops project goals and objectives, evaluates project success and regulatory compliance, and makes presentations.
Performs administrative duties by preparing and reviewing reports and correspondence, performing safety audits and inspections, reviewing policies and procedures, providing advice, researching and analyzing information such as cost-benefit studies, developing and maintaining databases and responding to and forwarding inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 3 years managing complex projects and coordinating experts from different fields
Valid and Unrestricted Class D – Driver’s License
Special Job Requirements
The hiring department will consider relevant experience in lieu of the required Bachelor’s degree.

Selection Plan
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in an Oral Board interview.
- Oral Board Interviews will be held: Tuesday, January 21, 2020
Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on the Civil Service Employment List. An applicant’s ranking on the Civil Service Employment List will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:
- 20% of your rating for education and work experience
- 80% of your oral board interview
This recruitment will establish a Civil Service Employment List that will be utilized to fill vacancies occurring within the next 6 months.
Veterans, Native Americans, or Disability preference points will be added to the final score for those that are placed on the Civil Service Employment List.
If you qualify for preference points as outlined in the Employment Profile, you must present your documentation at the Oral Board Interviews. The DD 214 must be a copy that indicated characterization of service.
