Overview
Responsible for managing the day to day oversight of HIM functions for assigned vertical network. This position is also responsible for the seamless integration of ambulatory and hospital based HIM departments and work areas under the corporate HIM structure. The HIM Manager ensures the provision of efficient and effective workflow within HIM through comprehensive staff training, the redesign of workflows and the optimization of technology to enable superior HIM customer service, regulatory compliance coupled with timely and quality work products.

Responsibilities
- 1. Provide regulatory and compliance consultation at the local site. Specifically knowledge sharing iwth peer departments adn Performance Improvement with respect to JCAHO Information Management and Record of Care Standards, legal health record and Department of Public Health standards related to the patient medical record and related functions.
- 2. Develop the project plan, schedule and timeline for the efficient transition of human resources and coordination of work packages to a centralized location.
- 3. Serve as Project Manager preparing staff for Epic go-live through comprehensive training workflow redesign and physician support.
- 4. Participate in decisions, analyze and problem solve issues with legacy, current and planned systems as they relate to access, management and the completion of patient data for ongoing patient care, to meet discharge not final billed metrics, minimize delays in record completion and ensure regulatory compliance.
- 5. Manage human resource functions in the department during the transition including staff scheduling, training, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions and job transitions consistent with the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) employee engagement philosophy.
- 6. Supervise health information staff to assure staff competency and performance.
- 7. Provide guidance, motivations and support to the health information staff.
- 8. Coordinate the transition of forms and documents through design/revision of templates within the HER applications to standardize for data entry consistent with the YNHHS forms template.
- 9. Collaborate with management and staff at YNHHS during transition to develop and implement strategies that are consistent with other YNHHS entities.
- 10. Ensure timely record availability to the medical staff and clinical team.
- 11. Manages project timeline, scope and budget for training programs, remediation efforts and additional staffing.
- 12. Performs other related duties in the department as required for integration.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management required or equivalent combination of education and experience. RHIA or RHIT required.
EXPERIENCE
Five (5) years progressive work experience in HIM operations managerial responsibility, preferably large, academic environment. Demonstrated accomplishments for revenue cycle initiatives and managing the implementation of HIM projects.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Advanced knowledge and experience with the Electronic Health Record and documentation management systems. Experience with workflow re-design and change management strategies. Project Management experience a plus. Understanding of billing and regulatory requirements, HPAA, State and JCAHO medical record requirements including federal compliance regulations and coding guidelines. Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills. Well developed communication skills, analytical skills, and use of Microsoft Office tools. Strong knowledge of systems and ability to work with a diverse group of clinicians, ancillary departments, and office staff
