Capital Railroad Contracting Inc. is a rapidly growing Railroad Bridge, Track, and Maintenance
Contractor based in Columbia, MO. We construct railroad bridges, new industry tracks and perform
many maintenance of way tasks for Class 1 and industry clients. We are accepting applications and
resumes for a bridge estimator position to work in our Columbia MO office. The bridge estimator will
be responsible for estimating railroad bridge projects duties will include but are not limited to:
Preparing cost estimates at various stages of design from schematic and budget to detailed
take off and pricing
Participating in project meetings, reviewing schedules, and preparing reports
Exploring documentations in order to gain a deep understanding of project requirements
Building and maintaining healthy and long term relationships with vendors, clients, and other
project managers
Creating and presenting reports to upper management
Visiting project sites, and other venues necessary in order to do estimates accurately
Collecting and analyzing data by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and other
related documents
Training and leading other construction department’s administrative staff
Managing incoming and outgoing blueprint drawings, and creating and maintaining appropriate
logs for all construction projects
Negotiating construction prices with subcontractors and suppliers for competitive bidding
Communicating with engineers, clients, contractors, and subcontractors efficiently; and
preparing economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
The successful candidate will have many roles in the process of securing work and is a vital part of the
construction cycle. The successful candidate will have the following skills:
High analytical skills which enable a construction estimator to consider and evaluate different
construction methods and options in order to determine the most cost effective solutions or
recommendations that meet the required specifications
Well developed written and verbal communication skill s is required to liaise with vendors and
clients, and write and present comprehensive reports
Attention to detail is required to be detail oriented because minor changes can greatly affect
the overall cost of a project
Time management skills to work on fixed dead lines
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, construction science, or any other related field.
Advanced skills in Excel and other estimating software
