National painting company seeks innovative thought leader to join their team as Vice President of Finance

We are searching for a motivated, goal-oriented Vice President of Finance to join our growing team and to contribute to expanding our national brand. The chosen candidate will be an innovative financial thought leader and will serve as a key member of our leadership team. We are seeking an executive with a ‘role-up your sleeves’ mindset who doesn’t take themselves too seriously but does take their ability to build and lead an accounting and finance team very seriously. The VP of Finance will report to, and partner with the Founder/CEO and play a critical role in leading all financial strategy, profit & loss management, risk management, budgeting, forecasting, and accounting activity.
The VP of Finance will be responsible for building and managing a team to handle all accounting functions to include, but are not limited to:
Strategic Planning
- Planning, creating and implementing the annual budget
- Monitoring progress and present operational metrics both internally and externally
- Creating and establishing yearly financial objectives that align with the annual plan for growth and expansion
- Assessing and evaluating the financial performance of the organization concerning long-term operational goals, budgets, and forecasts
- Providing insight and recommendations to both short-term and long-term growth plan of organization
- Identifying, acquiring and implementing systems and software to provide critical financial and operational reports
Financial Analysis, Budgeting, and Forecasting
- Develop the annual budget, evaluate all departments and automate processes while increasing efficiency
- Oversee job costing process
- Produce monthly crew leader benchmarking reports; rank crew leaders based on objective results
- Produce monthly sales benchmarking reports, comparing gross profits by sales rep
- Produce/evaluate ROI reports on marketing sources
- Manage HR financial issues including benefit programs and unemployment management
- Provide budget worksheet to managers
- Assign cost center owners
- Produce monthly financial reports, including profit and loss statements and the balance sheet.
- Produce weekly projections of revenues based on work sold and employees on staff
- Meet with vendors and other business partners to aid in negotiations for products and services
- Reforecast next several months based on actuals to date and expected revenues and expenses
- Benchmark individual expense categories against other painting contractors
- Prepare monthly and weekly financial reports including monthly profit and loss, weekly cash flow and other management reports.
- Project and manage cash flow
- Provide weekly cash flow projections based upon expected receivables and payables; chart out expected cash receipts by customer
- Review and analyze monthly financial results and provide recommendations
- Coordinate all audit and tax activities
Accounting General Ledger and Operations
- Oversee the procedures and tax filings of the company’s tax consultant to best utilize their skills and abilities
- Responsible for all accounting records-general ledger, subsidiary ledgers, financial reporting, and audits.
- Responsible for all month-end closing activities including general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts and overhead cost allocation
- Manage the payroll process to establish best practices for the organization
- Evaluate insource Vs. outsource options
- Verify the accuracy of payroll through a high-level audit
- Monitor expenses and notify the management team when expenses exceed the budget
- Lead cost reduction assessments
- Recommend cost-cutting measures when appropriate
- Oversee accounts payable process
- Weekly review of accounts payable report
- Direct AP clerk on timing of vendor payments
- Develop payment standards and guidelines
Required Qualifications
A minimum of ten years of progressive experience in accounting and finance; at least five years of supervisory experience or experience that ensures the quality of work delivered by others; and knowledge of GAAP accounting, financial statements, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow, tax planning, and auditing. Experience in the construction industry a plus but not required.
- Excellent leadership and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communications skills both written and oral
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities
- Highly proficient in computer systems necessary to complete financial duties
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field
- CPA required

Salary: $115,000.00 to $130,000.00 /hour
