The Underwriting Director is responsible for day to day risk assessment activities. Ensures work is handled in a timely and effective manner with an emphasis on building and maintaining client relationships and making business decisions that align with the Life Insurance Division’s strategies and risk tolerance. This individual will support the Long term care business including research in industry trends, market advancements and producer business analysis . Critical skills in communication, complex medical and financial case design and negotiation skills are a must.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Plans, organizes and distributes day to day workflo w Provides Leadership and Manages Underwriters who are responsible for assessing risk on all life insurance business across all products and within channels Reviews, analyzes, and documents evidence for New Business to determine appropriate risk classifications. Signing authority up to $25 million Builds business relationships with life insurance producers, Pacific Life field personnel, industry groups, and other internal/external customers Experienced in Innovation and automation platform Audit experience: Internal, reinsurance, MIB, state Insurance Departments and Compliance Claims review Research of Underwriting guidelines Understanding of Group or Multilife /Coli/Boli Project management experience Analysis/ research of Long term care trends and analysis Collaboration with producers, carrier office and sales personnel is key and complex.

FACTORS FOR SUCCESS:
College degree or equivalent professional experience preferred Strong experience with Long Term Care Minimum of 10 years’ experience underwriting in the life insurance business, including knowledge and understanding of financial concepts/terminology and medical terminology. Ability to motivate, develop, and direct staff Knowledge and experience with Medical Information Bureau (MIB) coding Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate with various levels of professionals Presentation skills 20 years’ experience writing documents such as emails, correspondence, adverse disclosure notices, etc.
