The University of Indianapolis seeks applicants for a Residence Hall Director, which is a full time, exempt staff role. The Residence Hall Director is a professional member of the Office of Residence Life and is responsible for the overall administration of their assigned residence hall and student development in addition to departmental assignments. Residence Hall Directors should be committed to increasing student engagement and carrying out the mission of the Division of Student Affairs.

This is a “Live-In” position, which will require the Residence Hall Director to live in an appointed residence hall apartment. Expected position start date November 2019.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate student staff including in-services, and staff meetings
  • Establish a student culture where diversity is encouraged and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership
  • Support and assist with departmental programmatic initiatives, which may often require collaboration with other offices and evening or weekend hours
  • Maintain active participation with staff development and engage various professional development opportunities
  • Work closely with Assistant Director & Associate Dean of Students to create and maintain student-centered programs and services
  • Serve as initial disciplinary officer
  • Counsel and advise students. Provide referrals when needed or requested and intervene in crisis situations
  • Carry out “On Duty/On-Call” responsibilities
  • Complete all other duties assigned by the Assistant Director & Associate Dean of Students


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution by time of appointment is required
  • Prior leadership experience required
  • Prior supervisory experience is required
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the needs of people from diverse backgrounds and interests required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) with individuals and before groups are required
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends is required
  • Ability and willingness to live in a residence hall apartment is required
  • Prior residence hall experience preferred
