MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

1.Graduate of a NLN accredited school of nursing or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology
2.Master’s Degree in applicable field
REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

1.Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Arkansas or registered as a Medical

Technologist.

2.Certification in Infection Control (CIC)

3.Membership in professional organizations such as APIC preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

1.Must have a minimum of five years’ acute care experience in Infection Prevention.

2.Two years’ management experience required, Director level preferred.
3.Microsoft Office Applications and Theradoc (or similar software product).

4.Experience with electronic medical records.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Knowledge of current regulatory, accreditation and professional agencies.

2.Application of knowledge of epidemiology and infectious diseases.

3.Ability to communicate effectively.
4.Able to manage and develop the capability of the department.
5.Effective teaching and one-one coaching.

Physical Requirements: This job requires, at various times, the following physical activities; climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, carrying, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing, sometimes exerting in excess of 20-100 pounds of force. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform daily activities. May be subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents and exposure to high heat and chemicals), infectious diseases, and may be required to function around prisoners and mental patients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.LEADERSHIP:

  • Designs programs and processes to prevent or reduce infections.
  • Keeps current of changes in national programs and measures. Teaches others in the organization.
  • Leads or facilitates inter-professional teams to prevent or reduce the number of infections.
  • Investigates breaks in care practice processes leading to infections.
  • Identifies electronic data collection methods and national comparative databases.
  • Manages the data associated with the infection prevention program.
  • Creates data collection tools and methods when electronic data not available.
  • Aligns work with organizational goals associated with the infection prevention program.
  • Collaborates closely with Infectious Disease colleagues in developing programs and plans.
  • Frequently in clinical areas teaching, observing, and collecting data.
  • Acting as role model for others regarding infection prevention behavior.

2.INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL:

  • Apply surveillance definitions and methodologies to develop collection tools and gather relevant surveillance data.
  • Supports leaders in the organization in the application and evaluation of basic institutional risk criteria for specific situations.
  • Generates reports and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Acts as a resource for patients and staff and provides education including the development of electronic or hard copy materials.

3.QUALITY IMPROVEMENT

  • Identify opportunities for improvement and work with QI coordinators in developing improvement teams and associated improvement methodologies and documents.
  • Actively engages in improvement activities.
