Position Overview

  • Responsible for leading governance over the treasury controls environment, regulatory requirements, banking changes, policies, delegation of authorities, business purpose, and cross-functional committee charters and decision support. Assist the Treasurer in defining “best-in-class” treasury practices and developing multi-year continuous improvement plans that align to the corporate strategy. Areas include global cash management, European treasury center activities, bank account management, foreign exchange trading, hedging activities, capital markets (including financing transactions, share repurchase and dividends), cash flow forecasts, liquidity management, repatriation, capital markets, benefit trusts, and insurance.
  • Provide project management and subject matter expertise in development of the roadmap to enhance controls and efficiencies in treasury. Includes working with outside consultants hired to provide a best in class objectives and action plans to update all our control and policy documentation. Control gaps will be identified and prioritized for resolution.
  • Prepare regular dashboards and reports to track key metrics, compliance, exceptions, and improvement opportunities. Coordinate controls with related stakeholders in accounting and end-to-end process owners. Lead coordination and oversight of various internal and external audit activities, SOX sign-offs, and IT requests for system user set-ups.
  • Coordinate with IT and other stakeholders on Quantum upgrades or other system changes that require project plans, kick-off meetings, and regular status reports.
  • No direct reports, but high coordination across team members, financial institutions, consultants, and other stakeholders at Baxter.


Critical Responsibilities

  • Provide assurance over the control environment in treasury. Lead compliance with internal controls, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), SEC requirements, and Baxter Financial Policies and Procedures for all related treasury entities and operations.
  • Provide proactive leadership in directing best practices definition and continuous improvement action plans.
  • Ensure that decision support services are provided to other functions of business.
  • Provide oversight to IT projects such as the Quantum system upgrade, enhancements, reporting, JDE interfaces, and user controls.
  • Lead and participate in teams to define, develop, finalize, recommend and execute implementation project plans as appropriate.
  • Proactively focus on relevant business risks, lead appropriate risk assessment, and determine and drive implementation of mitigation plans.
  • Builds strong teams and relationships through motivation, direction, holding individuals accountable and providing challenging work.

  • Strong business acumen and judgment as well as understanding of relevant business environment.
  • Ability to effectively influence and drive consensus with diverse stakeholders; demonstrated ability to manage multiple, competing priorities.
  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
  • Subject matter expertise in all areas of treasury. Working knowledge and coordination with GAAP accounting principles, tax and legal on treasury transactions.
  • Skilled at assembling and managing both ongoing staff as well as cross-functional teams as required.
  • Decisive leadership, with ability to generate ideas, develop alternatives, rapidly decide upon best course of action and drive implementation of that decision.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (or country equivalent).
  • MBA/CPA preferred.
  • Demonstration of key finance competencies and qualifications and typically
  • 12 or more years of experience.
