The International Center for Journalists, ICFJ, a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC, is seeking a program director to oversee journalism programs in Latin America. The program director works closely with senior management in identifying key objectives for ICFJ programs and managing individual programs worldwide. They oversee implementation of program activities, program budgets, write funder reports, and manage grant compliance. Applicants should have experience with U.S.-government-funded programs and in Latin America. Fluency in Spanish is required, and journalism experience is preferred. The program director supervises program managers, officers or assistants.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Takes responsibility for all aspects of program implementation
    • Develops project-management plan for every program
    • Oversees implementation of program activities
    • Oversees program budgets
    • Manages staff/staff time
    • Writes and/or edits monthly, quarterly, progress and/or final reports for funders
    • Responsible for grant compliance
    • Responsible for funder relations/reports
    • Creates and supervises activities timeline(s)
    • Develops and implements monitoring and evaluation plan
    • Develops/oversees implementation of program communications
  • Works with New Initiatives department on design of new programs for proposals
    • Reviews proposals: activities, timelines
    • Reviews budgets
  • Represents ICFJ at conferences, meetings and other events that involve participants, partners, board members and funders

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Experience managing federal grants, particularly USAID/State Department-funded programs
  • Experience managing multi-million-dollar grants
  • Journalism experience
  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree is preferred
  • Minimum of five years relevant work experience in non-profit grant management and/or relevant journalism role
  • Demonstrated experience with databases, including Salesforce, and new digital technology
  • Demonstrated analytic, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated written communication skills; strong English-language skills
  • Experience using social media
  • Fluency in Spanish and experience in Latin America
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and hold a valid passport to travel abroad
  • This position will be based in Washington, D.C. It may include periodic travel throughout the US and abroad. Local candidates strongly preferred. ICFJ typically does not cover relocation expenses.
