We are searching for a Metal Fabrication Shop Manager to join our team in Live Oak, FL.
The Manager, of the Metal Fabrication Shop is responsible for the supervision of the machine shop for ten (10) machinists and welders; obtaining material quotes; interfacing with vendors and customers; bidding jobs; tracking schedules and costs of machined parts for both manual and CNC machines and various types of welding.
- Supervises employees who form and shape metal by various fabrication, machining, and/or welding processes.
- Responsible for obtaining material quotes.
- Interfaces with vendors and customers.
- Responsible for tracking schedules and costs of machined parts.
- Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
- Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; uses a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining.
- Fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required.
- May modify numerically controlled programs on numerically controlled (NC) machines.
- May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
Education and Experience:
- A degree/experience in related field and/or a combination or education and experience.
- Ten (10) years of machining experience.
- Three (3) years of managing experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to speak,read and write clearly and concisely the English language.
- Good computer skills, working knowledge of standard computer products and devices including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,PowerPoint, etc.), the Internet, scanners and the ability to comprehend and learn new software
- Strong analytic and communication skills; ability to coach, train, motivate and manage technical personnel.
- Ability to manage activities; ability to meet program objectives within contract cost and schedule requirements.
- Effective human relation skills are essential and ability to interact with employees customers.
- Ability to motivate others; sound effective listening skills; pays attention to details; ability to work under pressure; and ability to meet deadlines.
Physical Demands:
- Exerts up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally, or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Employee regularly sits while using upper body movements including arms, hands and fingers operating computer equipment and other office equipment. Also to test and monitor design activities.
- Employee regularly reaches with hands and arms in moving tools equipment and/or products as needed.
Other Work Conditions and Requirements:
- Employee works in a moderately noisy environment.
- Directly provides support, motivation and training to technical personnel.
- Interacts with administrative personnel and other engineers
