The Boon Edam Group has its Headquarters in Edam. Boon Edam has three major manufacturing sites that have a global perspective:

The link between Commercial and Manufacturing is handled by Distribution and Service Centres that are either incorporated at the manufacturing sites or a separate division in the region. Our customers work directly with our Sales and Operations subsidiaries in countries all over the world. Where Boon Edam doesn’t have a local subsidiary, we serve our customers via agents and distributers who are in direct contact with Boon Edam Global Export.


Directors Position in the Group

The Manufacturing Director of Boon Edam Manufacturing, LLC reports in a hierarchical relationship to the Executive Board via the CTO. The Manufacturing Director of BEM reports in an operational relationship to the Global Manufacturing Director.

The assignment is to optimize the manufacturing facility to the transparent organization where stakeholders can see the quality of processes and lean manufacturing. Guide our proud employees to find ways for continuous improvement optimization of costs and lead-times. We want our next director to take the organization to the next level, guided by the Global Manufacturing strategy, so the rest of Boon Edam can anticipate and work with manufacturing as One Boon Edam.


Objective of the Role

The Director of Manufacturing’s main goal is to ensure that our global products are manufactured in a safe and environment friendly way according to high Quality on Time at the right Costs (Safety Quality Output Costs) in alignment with strategic objectives and operational goals. The ideal candidate manages the organization by creating a lean manufacturing culture with clear instructions of delegated tasks and control mechanisms by using manufacturing dashboards with operational and financial KPI’s.


Behavioral Profile

The Director of Manufacturing manages an independent organization/business unit with an extensive, mostly operational staff department and ensures the supporting staff processes are fully integrated into the organization. Initiates important innovative investment projects and programs. Determines the financing (budget) for these projects and programs and monitors the efficiency.

Has a clear and appealing idea of the entire organization, defines important policy themes and identifies areas where the organization needs to change. Ensures coherence between the department plans and indicates priorities within the desired changes. Determines change processes that ensure the organization’s continuity.

The Director of Manufacturing successfully deals with organization-wide change processes, with concern for complex interests and internal tensions. Tackles strategic themes within the management team and assures alignment with strategic stakeholders like International Product Engineering, Research & Development, Product Management and Global Supply Chain Management (including Global Procurement). Delegates tasks as much as possible, creates space for talent development and coaches management team members regarding their development and performance. Maintains (international) relationships with the major external stakeholders and knows how to persuade them of the organizational plans. Is a real people manager, sets the standards for others, addresses others regarding those standards and enjoys leading by example.


Results Areas

Manages the business model. Systematically models the organizational structure by initiating, reinforcing or scaling back corporate activities aligned with the Boon Edam group strategy. Schedules the strategic themes that need to be realized through organizational change. Monitors, guides and adjusts the change programs so that the business model continues to provide for the corporation’s continuity.

Responsible for the operational management, the results and the return of an independent organization with diverse independent units that are responsible for the production of products. Manages the cohesion between the primary process, sales and the staff departments (Finance, HRM, ICT etc.). Is responsible for the business activities’ efficiency.

Responsible for the team formation and the cooperation of the management team. Coaches team members on individual performance, style and learning ability. Systematically improves the team’s efficiency, so that performance grows on a continuous basis.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor/Master degree in Manufacturing or related field

5-10 Year of experience in Operations Management

Able to build and manage a team as well as train entry-level personnel

Knowledgeable of Lean Manufacturing Practices (Lean Six Sigma black belt is preferred)

Engaging personality with high sense of responsibility and accountability

Customer oriented

International business experience (experience with Dutch and Chinese culture is preferred)

Experienced in Customer Sales and or support

Experience with SAP Manufacturing

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Good knowledge of Business Processes

Excellent verbal, technical writing and interpersonal skills

Comfortable in our production environment with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities

Ability to work efficiently and accurately on multiple projects simultaneously to meet set goals and timelines
