Job Summary

Responsible for the development and execution of strategies and initiatives to achieve profit and growth objectives. Leads external/internal accounting, audits, and finance for the Distribution, Life, FBS Division. Primary contact for rating agencies and Depts. of Insurance on financial matters.
Essential Job Functions
  • Responsible for functioning forecast tools that the business uses to plan and project GWP and CR. Provides financial analysis of GWP and CR for accuracy, reasonableness, and seeks to discover insight into opportunities for improved growth and profit.
  • Oversees the development of the Regional Business Plan as well as the Exclusive Agent plan.
  • Oversees the consolidated budget, programs, expense control, and proposals developed by functions within Distribution, Life, FBS
  • Directs the preparation and release of all financial reports to internal users of the information
  • Prepares an annual budget, consolidates functional budget as appropriate, provides budget explanations, and counsels employees regarding budget and expense control
  • Serves on various HO and/or Regional staff committees
  • Provides leadership that promotes financial strength; an efficient and quick response to the changing business environment; quality, personal service to our customers; and open communication among employees
  • Formulates, interprets and communicates objectives in support of the Company’s overall short and long-term objectives
  • Ensures the development of an effective organizational structure and provides for management development which will ensure a continuing pool of available key management talent
  • Develops and maintains policies, procedures, and programs designed to ensure the effective allocation of resources and build positive relationships between employees and the Company, ensuring a work force that is appropriately organized, trained, compensated and motivated to meet current and future needs
  • Evaluates functional/office performance by reviewing analytical results against goals and taking timely action to avoid less than acceptable results
  • Ensures that departments are managed consistently with established Company policies, compliance and guidelines
  • Coordinates with all appropriate Officers to ensure that necessary services and support are available and effectively utilized
  • Develops and establishes policies, procedures, and criteria for the measurement of performance against established standards; providing reports as appropriate
  • Represents the Company at the highest levels with government agencies, special interest groups, industry coalitions, and community leaders to influence public policy consistent with Company objectives
  • Maintain all governance and compliance/regulatory standards

Education Requirements
  • Minimum: Bachelors Degree in Accounting/Finance. CPA designation preferred.

Experience Requirements
  • Senior level managerial experience at a minimum of 15 years. Must possess the communication expertise (verbal and written) necessary to effectively offer solutions and business plans to senior business leaders and executives
  • A broad business focus with the ability to think across functions. Must possess experience in managing Budgets, ensuring staff is technically competent, attracting and retaining talent, cross-training or ensuring educational development and succession of staff; enhancing internal and external relationships.
  • Compliance, Risk Assessment and Ethics Compliance. High levels of accountability, ethics, and integrity.
  • Technical accounting/finance skills
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Understanding of Farmers and Zurich financial structure and systems
  • General knowledge of economics and corporate finance

Special Skill Requirement
  • Position requires understanding of GAAP accounting principles and IAS accounting standards
  • Professional must be skilled and knowledgeable in customer relationship management
  • Ability to articulate responses to various outside regulatory and monitoring organizations with clarity and sensitivity
