The Global Business Coalition for Education (GBC-Education) is a movement of businesses committed to ending the global education crisis. Established by Theirworld in 2012, its mission is to ensure that every child has the best start in life, a safe place to learn, and skills for the future.
The Global Business Coalition for Education leverages the collective power of business, government, international organizations, NGOs, youth, and other stakeholders to deliver free, equitable and inclusive quality education for all.
With a network of more than 150 influential private sector companies committed to best practice in supporting education and Sustainable Development Goal 4, GBC-Education has become one of the world’s most effective forums for connecting businesses that aim to make an impact on the lives of young people through education.

Position Summary
The Global Business Coalition for Education is seeking a Head of Communications as a full-time position based in New York City. The ideal candidate for this role must have strong attention to detail, multitasking, and organizational skills. The role will suit someone that is well-organized, efficient, able to draw connections between various aspects of our work and wants to make an impact supporting global education through the deployment of strategic communications.
The majority of the Head of Communication’s week will be dedicated to managing GBC-Education’s communications strategy, media and press relationships, promotion of reports and activities, and social media production.
Tasks will include:
- Implementing a GBC-Education communications strategy aligned with the broader global communications strategy and plan
- Developing and maintaining a communications plan, which includes content across all digital channels (website, social media, email) as well as earned and promoted media advancing our key priority issues
- Engaging our corporate spokespeople (e.g. representatives from member companies) in strategic communications
- Identifying new channels for communication and media partnerships
- Engaging with our staff and membership to deploy strategic communications to advance organizational priorities
- Writing and disseminating GBC-Education’s monthly communications sheet and quarterly newsletter
- Managing an education news digest for staff, members and partners
- Organizing social media campaigns around GBC-Education’s initiatives and supporting partners / members in showcasing their work
- Designing digital content to be published on social media channels and other online platforms
- Managing GBC-Education’s website and working with developers in updating / maintaining webpage
- Developing press releases and working with journalists / press organizations to disseminate information regarding reports, events, announcements, etc.
- Creating event materials (e.g. one pagers, invitations, briefing notes, website content, etc.) to be distributed prior and during GBC-Education’s events
- Working with companies and research partners in producing and finalizing reports and communications plans
Requirements
The successful candidate will have direct experience working in communications for corporate philanthropy; corporate social responsibility; environmental, social and corporate governance; or a related field. Experience with international development, particularly education, is a plus.
The candidate will be able to:
- Lead and supervise a team.
- Develop and execute a communications strategy.
- Understand and successfully work with press, media and social media.
- Foster a sense of team spirit among internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicate well and relay information in a timely manner.
- Engage with external corporate and philanthropic audiences.
- Work closely with the Executive Director.
- Have strong interpersonal and writing skills.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
At the Global Business Coalition for Education, we value all types of learning – both formal and through professional experience. An advanced degree in Communications or related fields is preferred, but not required. The ideal candidate will have 5-10+ years of experience of direct project management in a related field.
