About the Organization

Youth Community Service (YCS) was founded in 1990, as a collaborative partnership among cities and school districts, to engage young people from diverse Midpeninsula communities in meaningful service-based learning. YCS students build leadership and life skills, empathy for the needs of others, and a sense of connectedness, purpose and efficacy, while making a positive difference in the lives of those around them. Since inception, YCS has engaged over 28,000 students in 190,000 hours of service with over 50 community partners, including schools, cities, counties, nonprofits, community benefit organizations and congregations.

YCS staff work with a strength-based mindset, helping students build resilience and connectedness to discover resources to meet their challenges together, overcoming mental health challenges, as well as issues of racism and inequality of economic and educational resources. YCS is the achievement of a resilient community legacy that focuses on a single vision – that every young person with a heart full of service has a future of meaning and purpose.

About the Position

The Executive Director is retiring and the Board is seeking an experienced Executive Director to lead, manage and grow the organization.

The Executive Director will be the leader and face of the organization in the community. They will be responsible for developing and implementing the strategic plan, for managing a comprehensive development program, overseeing the organization’s budget, working in partnership with the board, managing and providing leadership to the staff and volunteers.

The successful candidate will have experience leading and managing a nonprofit organization, working with volunteer boards, a successful track record of fundraising, and knowledge of—and passion for—youth development and community service.
