This is a new opportunity available reporting to the Head of Western Mining Hub. The Director of Mining Hub Project Management is accountable for the quality, on-time delivery, profitability of his/her project execution portfolio within their mining hub (Western Mining Hub is comprised of the North and South America, Americas). The role is accountable for Project Management department activities and directs the team of project managers and project engineers who act as the primary accountable manager through all phases of project execution. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring the project execution team is meeting targets of on-time delivery, profitability, and positive customer relationships to fulfill the as-sold project scope and meet contract commitments.
The role encompasses the coordination of projects executed in more than one office and has the responsibility for the project execution and the direction of the procurement efforts in conjunction with the execution plan.
Support, guidance, coaching of project managers is a one of many key requirements for this role.
Project Performance Management
- Responsible for the project execution plan and the direction of the procurement efforts in conjunction with the execution plan.
- Ensure and audit the adherence to FLSmidth project execution standards. Drive the implementation of project execution plans.
- Monitor project manager and project performance and identify threats early and have mitigation plans in place managing risks. Also support Project managers in identifying project opportunities.
- Maintain and improve upon the standards and tools for project management through data and analytics of current processes, identifying problems and determining resolutions.
- Oversee process of timely issuance and collection of invoices and coordinates with Finance Manage and hold all internal stakeholder support teams remain accountable to their commitments related to the project
- Act as a working manager, assisting the team in running projects, as needed.
- Responsible for measuring project management capacity needs of the hub
- Review project status and take accountability for data accuracy
- Accountable for ensuring lesson learnt are documented, communicated and ready to be used for future projects
Leadership
- Responsible for the growth and development of Project Managers, and Project Engineers, managing employeesâ expectations and handling issues and concerns as they arise
- Provide an effective means to retain, share, and train others on group processes and activities. Ensure effective training is provided for relevant tools and processes
- Manage customer interfaces through needed interventions and communication. i.e. act as a first escalation contact for the customer during the project execution phase
- Maintain open communication with Sales and customers to ensure satisfaction managing the Project Management process of working through project steps and timelines
- Coordinate project executed in more than one office.
- Coordinate with other departments at management level to ensure all aspects of the project are compatible and will proactively pursue closing of activities to fulfil project and client needs.
- Manage and drive the cooperation between project managers and any other departments / entities
- Define, evaluate and implement any improvements necessary
- Ensure Safety matters are prioritized accordingly
- Responsible for project management budget activities within the Mining Hub
Project Reporting & Project Financials
- Prepare and lead project reviews with corporate management including provision of project financial information relevant stakeholders.
- Oversee and present progress reports and ensure the project is furthering organizational goals and commitments. Ensure forecasts are accurate.
- Responsible of proposing Contribution Margin, Contingency & Warranty changes during project execution to the Head of Mining Hub.
- Meet budgetary objectives and make adjustments to project constraints based on financial analysis.
- Responsible of defining project budget at start of project
- Responsible of reporting official customer claims in a timely manner to hub leader
COMPETENCIES
Applicants who meet the following requirements will be considered:
- Bachelorâs degree in engineering and/or equivalent
- Minimum 15 years of relevant project management experience and preferably 10+ experience in managing people
- Experience working in a mining, heavy equipment, or metals industry a plus; working with large complex scopes and financially successful projects is required
- Effective verbal and written communication skills on a technical level with excellent interpersonal and customer relation skills
- Ability to identify team development opportunities and train personnel in the use of processes and tools to accomplish business goals
- Significant skills and broad understanding in project planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking.
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of quality project management principles and practices (i.e. project planning, forecasting, and cost tracking).
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
- Well-developed contract negotiation and contract management skills. Extensive experience in understanding contracts, specifications, and drawings
- Demonstrated computing skills and knowledge Microsoft suite of systems
