ary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Associate Experience Director serves as the leader responsible for the planning and execution of the functions’ engagement strategies for union avoidance. The Associate Experience Director is responsible for developing data analytics to understand where engagement vulnerabilities exist and owns creation and delivery of market specific action plans to address the vulnerabilities within the associate experience. Further, collaborates with market site leaders, HR and cross functional partners to integrate effective engagement and retention programs and practices with a goal of maintaining a direct, supportive relationship with our associates. The Associate Experience Director will also manage Ministry responses to all union activity within the markets leading up the point of certification of a union.

Essential Job Functions

  • Owns the creation of specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets and procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Owns design, and leads planning and implementation of Associate Experience programs, initiatives, and policies through cross functional partnership among the labor relations team, shared services and market HR. The Associate Experience Director will also be responsible for managing any third-party vendor leveraged as part of the strategy delivery.
  • Owns design of union avoidance analytics and development of KPIs to determine the impact of engagement initiatives and threat of unionization in the markets; partners with HR leaders and Workforce Insights function to evaluate effectiveness, checks and adjusts accordingly.
  • Oversees lateral connectivity between the Engagement Survey owners and each Market HR Strategic Leader to develop an action plan addressing the issues and concerns raised by associates. Manages support accountability to execute those plans and provide reporting and success metrics.
  • Leads development of campaign preparation, including first responder training, development of tools and repository of developed communication resources. Further, oversees the management and the engagement of the “first responder team” in campaign situations.
  • Responsible for reducing risk and strengthening the workplace through positive associate experiences and understanding the organization’s external and internal vulnerability for unionization.
  • Facilitates recurring status meetings and create ongoing opportunities to solicit feedback and check-ins with market leaders. Reacts quickly to new information around union activity and associate needs.
  • Keeps current on changes to relevant labor and employment laws and regulations, and in partnership with the labor team advises managers and market/site leaders on the same.
  • Builds credibility with and maintains good morale among employees, gains management trust. Conducts management and employee training sessions on leadership qualities that create a direct relationship with our associates.
  • Develops communications to support avoidance initiatives and election campaigns.
  • Acts as strategic partner to senior leaders to aid in developing business strategy to promote the culture while preserving the direct relationship.
  • Owns the relationship with the Diversity & Inclusion department to develop and sustain a culture of associates being comfortable voicing their differences and any concerns on inclusivity.
  • Collaborates with HRBPs to create/build leadership capability for represented and non-represented associates and leverages BSMH’s Core Culture & Leadership Behaviors to do so. Coaches leaders on positive associate relations and union avoidance.
  • Assist with various complex and/or sensitive projects, as assigned.


Required Minimum Education:
4 year/ Bachelors Degree

Graduate Degree (Masters)

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required: Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with ability to present information in a clear and concise manner. Depth of project management skills. Strong interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to develop collaborative relationships with people, and influence without authority at all levels of the Ministry. Eager to learn and intellectually curious. Have good judgment, a high level of professional integrity and the discretion to handle confidential and sensitive information. Ability to build rapport and communicate challenging information effectively. Reasoning ability that includes strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills required. Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality. Knowledge of Labor Law


Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Preferred: 5+ years’ experience in Employee and Labor Relations or related field 3+ years of related Human Resources experience or proven record of business management experience
