POSITION SUMMARY

Plan, direct, and coordinate the operations of the Tissue, Ocular, Donation Services and Northern Nevada Departments,. Duties and responsibilities include ensuring that all policies and procedures are consistent with Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO), American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB), Eye Banking Association of America (EBAA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other regulations and/or standards while ensuring that all subordinate staff are fully trained and compliant with all policies and procedures in collaboration with departmental leadership. Collaborates with NDN Medical Directors and Senior Leadership colleagues to strategize opportunities for improvement and best practices implementation in accordance with industry standards.

Responsible for hiring, supervising and development of subordinate leadership in accordance with NDN Standard Operating Procedures and optimal management principles. This position also coordinates the policy approval and implementation process with the NDN Medical Directors and the NDN Boards.

Supports the mission, goals, and strategic plan of the Nevada Donor Network, Inc. (NDN) through the development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of an effective management and recovery practices and follow up process designed to increase ocular and tissue donation. Must build and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external clients who have an impact on the donation mission.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Ensure that all departmental policies and procedures are consistent with EBAA/AATB/AOPO/FDA regulations and/or standards of practice.
  • Responsible for all aspects of strategic planning for respective departments
  • Ensure that all subordinate staff members are properly trained and mechanisms are in place to identify deviations from the same with commensurate and training and development of staff as needed.
  • Cultivate relationships with donation service area (DSA) hospital, coroners, funeral homes and all out of hospital facilities leadership to maximize donation opportunities by deploying best practices and providing the necessary resources to partners in collaboration with department directors and managers.
  • Provide education and in-services to hospital leadership and staff in collaboration with NDN hospital services staff as needed.
  • Strategizes and deploys research programs on behalf of the organization to present at national meetings and local forums for the advancement of the donation mission.
  • Oversee operational activities directly related to donation, tissue, NNV and ocular services in collaboration with department directors and managers.
  • Strategize performance improvement activities on an ongoing basis, based on internal data reports and feedback from field staff.
  • Evaluate clinical work schedules and environment in collaboration with department directors and managers to ensure optimal performance, best practices and quality of life for team members.
  • Responsible for clinical department budgets in collaboration with Chief Financial Officer and department directors and managers.
  • Reports status of operations to executive leadership and board members on an ongoing basis as it relates to donation activity and regulatory compliance of the organization
  • Strategize clinical protocols in collaboration with department directors and medical directors to ensure best practices and optimal donor care for maximum tissue transplantation.
  • Develop appropriate clinical and recovery metrics to measure and consistently improve performance. Utilize recognized regional and national benchmarks by keeping engaged with OPO community through national meetings and networking with other OPO colleagues.
  • Participates in Governing and Advisory Board dialogue and meetings to keep members advised of clinical performance and regulatory compliance of the organization.
  • Ensure that all required data are accurate, collected in a timely manner and reported to the appropriate regulatory agency in collaboration with Quality and Compliance Services.
  • Attend National and International industry conferences to maintain optimal engagement and knowledge of best practices, regulatory requirements and accreditation standards for the betterment of NDN operations.
  • Ensure that the NDN obtains and maintains AOPO/EBAA/AATB membership in good standing along with FDA compliance/registration.
  • In the absence of the President/CEO can direct clinical and regulatory decision making on behalf of organization in respective departments.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree in Healthcare or related focus preferred

Experience: Four to ten years related OPO operations experience required; Supervisory experience required. Experience in the development of policies and procedures preferred. Working knowledge of relevant regulatory agencies.

Computer Skills: Working proficiency and experience with all Microsoft office programs

Certificates & Licenses: EBAA or AATB certification preferred

Other Requirements: Experience in Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) preferred
