Full Job Description
The National Advanced Driving Simulator is looking for a collaborative and self-motivated research professional to facilitate the sustainability of an externally funded research center through contract/grant exploration and development and preparation of multi-disciplinary intra-college contracts. The NADS research support specialist is a vital member of the team, with responsibilities that include:
- identifying funding opportunities.
- working with management to define a strategic approach to winning funding.
- organizing and writing original content to win competitive proposals for industry and government contracts, grants, and other funding sources.
- coordinating with principal investigators (PIs) and research professionals who are university staff and faculty, as well as external stakeholders, to organize and oversee the proposal development effort; and coordinate and prepare progress and final reports.
- coordinating external publications on research including research journal articles, trade publications, news articles, marketing brochures and social media content.
About the National Advanced Driving Simulator (NADS):
We are a self-sustained transportation safety research center in the University of Iowaâs College of Engineering. Funded by government and industry, NADS utilizes its suite of world-class driving simulators and instrumented on-road vehicles to conduct research studies for the private and public sectors. Our faculty, staff, and students research the connection between drivers, motor vehicles, and road users with the mission to improve safety. Our research evolves with industry trends as well as the needs of our local and global communities, and our professional staff follow this evolution with a sustained mentality of continuous learning and teamwork. We are located on the University of Iowa Oakdale Campus in Coralville, IA.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelorâs degree in humanities, journalism, urban & regional planning, communication studies or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Extensive (typically defined as 1-3 years) experience related to the duties of this position.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Powerpoint.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills demonstrated by the ability to effectively and accurately share, receive, and interpret information from diverse audiences, including potential sponsors and media.
- Ability to read, interpret and comprehend project solicitations/requests for proposal documentation and experience with contract/grant writing processes.
- Demonstrated self-motivation and strong initiative to organize teams and hold individuals to agreed-upon timelines.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, balance multiple priorities, and ensure a high level of accuracy across concurrent assignments.
- Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive manner while appreciating the unique contribution of diverse individuals.
Desirable
- Masterâs degree
- Basic understanding of contract scheduling and deliverables, including progress and final reports for federal contracts/grants.
- Experience working with social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, website maintenance, etc
- Knowledge of graphic design, experience in the area of infographics and posters.
- Knowledge of the unique proposal opportunities related to transportation research and/or a strong familiarity in the preparation of proposals to federal government RFPs.
