Position Overview

Reporting to Company President and Metropolitan Group CFO, the Vice President of Finance is provides leadership of the finance function and works closely with senior leadersip of the company. Responsibilities include financial leadership, coaching to the company Controller, effective communication and implementation of policies and practices, detailed oversight of the managerial reporting process and problem resolution. Provides leadership and direction to finance and other staff functions.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversees accounting personnel and functions in the day-to-day financial activities of the Company (AR, AP, banking, payroll, collections, etc.) and the preparation of internal financial statements.
  • Works closely with the Company President and other senior members of management on financial planning, corporate vision and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide strategic financial leadership and support for the evaluation of acquisitions, capital expenditures, contracts, forecasts, budgets, strategic plans and other financial issues affecting the business.
  • Prepares operating budgets and management reports; makes independent economic analyses of business opportunities; and evaluates the financial impact of related actions being considered by the corporation.
  • Organizes, interprets and presents operating and financial data, including identification of significant success/problem indicators to senior management.
  • Recommend and lead new efforts to improve management and financial performance.
  • Ensure that adequate controls are implemented and maintained to safeguard financial risk and assets of the organization. Ensures that effective corporate and operational systems are established and maintained.
  • As part of this works to control spending within the organization.
  • Works in conjunction with auditors in the preparation of audited financial statements.
  • Ensures compliance with state tax (sales, income, etc.) laws in several states, including collection, payment and reporting.
  • Working with Corporate Tax Department to ensure compliance with Federal tax law, including reporting and payment.
  • Ensure the motivation, management, evaluation, discipline and succession planning for all department employees in coordination with the Human Resources Manager.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to the team
  • Stay abreast of trends and regulations to ensure effectiveness and compliance of the finance and accounting functions. Assist in performing all tasks necessary to achieve and help execute staff succession and growth plans.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; restricts discussion/knowledge of activity to a “need to know” basis.
  • Work on ad hoc projects as directed.


Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification and/or MBA strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of managerial/leadership experience in a finance role leading a team of finance professionals.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant.

Preferred

  • Manufacturing and/or construction background along with multi-unit operations experience highly desired.


Work Requirements

  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Ability to travel to/from various work sites
  • When in the field, required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety Glasses, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, Dust masks & Hearing Protection
