Job Title: Vice President of Engineering and Manufacturing

Job Duties:

  • Set manufacturing and engineering goals to facilitate company growth using previous experience in developing strategic and tactical goal setting.
  • Assess organizational structures and implement hiring programs.
  • Develop tactical programs to support strategic initiatives using prior successes in assessing organizational structures and developing people and teams.
  • Build and develop leadership teams in Manufacturing, Engineering and Technology groups based on previous experience in organizing and developing staff.
  • Develop strategic plans using Corporate growth projections.
  • Develop strategic plans, and develop and execute within Capital Expenditures (CAPEX) and Manufacturing Budgets using the ability to size equipment, determine energy costs for compounding systems and manufacturing and chemical processes.
  • Develop rheology programs to be used for future compounding equipment design using knowledge of polymer rheology for the design of extrusion screws and associated equipment.
  • Size extruders and ancillary equipment for the compounding process.
  • Model chemical process streams and develop Process Flow Diagrams via Junior Engineers
  • Determine Enthalpy Properties of polymer systems.
  • Perform energy and heat balances in compounding systems and determine electrical costs for manufacturing Purple’s polymer.
  • Program Programable Logic Controller/Human Machine Interface (PLC/HMI) systems to Automate Extrusion Processes and Loss in Weight Feed Systems.
  • Size material handling systems, utilizing pneumatics and mechanical conveying.
  • Calculate Specific Mechanical Energy (SME) and apply SME theory to polymer mixing and compounding systems.
  • Develop production models and determine labor requirements and labor costs.
  • Create systems and programs to model all production facilities, determine manufacturing capacity and identify programs to debottleneck operations.
  • Develop and execute Purple’s manufacturing growth strategy in the U.S. to include equipment development and new facilities development in response to the outcome of production and labor model capacity limits.
  • Teach and oversee the development of process equipment sizing and performance models, utilizing previous experience in energy balances and power costing, material conveying, and process and chemical flow diagram development.
  • Develop standard controls for plant and equipment operation using previous experience in machine controls, International Standard for Organization (ISO) documentation and use, and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

Degree Requirement: Bachelor of Applied Science or Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering

Experience Required: 15 years experience as a Chemical Engineer.

Skill set Requirements (Special Requirements):

15 years of experience as a Chemical Engineer must include 10 years in the field of Polymer Extrusion and Manufacturing.

Demonstrable knowledge of and prior experience in:

  • Assessing organizational structures and implementing hiring programs.
  • Organizing, and developing staff.
  • Develop strategic plans using Corporate growth projections.
  • Rheological properties of polymers.
  • Polymer rheology for the design of extrusion screws and to select equipment for the compounding process.
  • Modeling chemical process streams and developing Process Flow Diagrams
  • Determining Enthalpy Properties of polymer systems.
  • Performing energy and heat balances in compounding systems and determining electrical costs.
  • Programming PLC/HMI systems to Automate Extrusion Processes and Loss in Weight Feed Systems.
  • Sizing material handling systems, utilizing pneumatics and mechanical conveying
  • Calculating SME and applying SME theory to polymer mixing and compounding systems.
  • Developing production models and determining labor requirements and labor costs.
  • Preparation of ISO documentation.
  • Developing CMMSs.

Travel Requirements: Travel internationally up to 2 trips per year for a period of up to 8 days. Travel domestically up to 2 trips per month for periods of 3-5 days.

Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.
