- Facilitate student interaction and provide opportunities for their growth and development.
- Using community and student development principles, the RD would actively foster
an environment within the residence halls which reflect a positive community and
which contribute to studentsâ personal and academic success.
- Direct the development of hall learning and social activities using the programming
dimensions as established by the department. Direct and coordinate hall activities to develop an environment where resident needs are effectively addressed. Develop program objectives and responsibilities amount staff to ensure effective implementation. Attend programs.
- Provide direction to the hall staff in communicating, interpreting, and administering residence hall and University policies and procedures. Meet with students who violate residence hall regulations. Mediate conflicts.
- Develop formal and informal relationships with students. Communicate effectively
with staff and students both verbally and in writing.
- Help students become involved in student organizations. Direct staff efforts in
developing student leaders, and in supporting student organizations. Advise hall
student groups.
- Provide opportunities, training experiences, and one-to-one contacts that identify and
help resolve individual problems and conflicts. Assist students in developing skills to address interpersonal conflicts.
- Set standards shared with other staff for maintaining visibility and availability within
the hall, and for initiation of informal contacts with students. Regularly visit floors and
attend programs and student group meetings. Develop strategies for daily interaction with students on a hall, living unit and individual basis.
- Provide direction to staff efforts in the hall; work with staff to help them establish and
reach objectives. Provide organization and communication to promote good staff
relations, support for individual staff, and effective information exchange.
- Supervise, train and evaluate the staff in the hall.
- Residence Director would also live in the residence halls.
- Serve as a resource to residents and be aware of programs, problems, and
individual concerns.
- Annually organize desk assistant recruitment process for the student desk assistant position.
- Oversee departmental committees as outlined by the Assistant Director and/or
Director.
- Coordinate the daily operations pertaining to hall(s) and any maintenance issues.
- Serve on-call periods along with other Residence Directors, Assistant Director, and
Director.
- Serve on University Committees as assigned by the Director.
- Conduct weekly staff meetings with Resident Advisors.
- Assist in judicial oversight and sanctioning.
- Provide quality customer service to all residential students, guests, parents, and
University employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director and/or Director.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelorâs degree from four-year college or university is required.
Experience:
At least one year related experience required.
