Job Summary

Scope of Work – Main duties, settings, geography, reporting relationships, other relationships:

Manages all the activities of the Gas Engineering Department, including the design of new business, replacement, reliability and reinforcement projects, the updating of all gas facility maps and records, including GIS, and the development of the annual budgets. Interfaces with customers, the public and regulatory agencies as required. Prepares and communicates reports for various activities in the department. Responsible to insure goals and objectives are met within budget constraints.


Responsibilities

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Scope of work – range of responsibilities):

  • Oversees and manages the development and design of new business, replacement, and municipal projects.
  • Develops the cast iron and bare steel replacement programs based on performing a risk assessment using the company Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP).
  • Provides guidance, direction and oversees the activities of the maps and records section of the department.
  • Recommends and approves materials and processes used on distribution system in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for updating/revising standards consist with new or revised regulations.
  • Oversees departments initiatives, the preparation of budgets and the tracking, cost control, and reporting of actual department O&M and company capital construction expenditures.
  • Responsible for employee goals and objectives and ensuring alignment with department and corporate goals.
  • Responsible for the preparation of reports to document performance in meeting department, corporate, or regulatory goals and requirements.
  • Represents the company on various teams or committees in the organization on state, regional or national issues.
  • Acts as liaison for the Company with customers and with state and municipal agencies to coordinate efforts.
  • Investigates failures of gas system components and procedural breakdowns and recommends corrective action.
  • Oversees emergency response actions, and takes part in an assigned manager on-call rotation.
  • Supervises employees within the group including performance appraisals, time approval, etc.
  • Must be able to solve complex problems, have project management skills and mentoring ability. Must be able to multi-task.
  • At least 8 years of technical experience in gas engineering and operations.
  • Knowledge of federal and state gas safety policies and procedures, along with typical company procedures for gas distribution operator.
  • Prior supervisory/management experience is needed as well as familiarity with budget development and oversight.
  • A working knowledge of gas system construction and maintenance practices, CAD, GIS, corrosion control techniques, underground pipe locating, map reading and print reading is required. Proficiency in SAP is desirable.
Skills and Requirements

Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field is required.
  • At least 8 years of technical experience in engineering and operations.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • PE license desirable.
