Job Responsibilities/Duties

This organization is accountable for the effective utilization of technical resources to provide and optimize analytical resources to meet unique client needs directed at the acceleration of Hanford Site cleanup missions including waste and environmental sample analysis, process control support, field and sampling services, and expertise in chemistry and data quality. The organization provides unique analytical methods as well as consulting services to assist customers with troubleshooting activities.

Manage a team of (15 to 20) senior scientists and technicians. Reports directly to the Process Chemistry Manager to provide technical activity expertise related to process development and analysis for the Tank Farms and other Hanford site projects. Ensures the safety of all workers within the Process Chemistry organization. Work to continually improve the analytical support to the Hanford site through new technology development and process improvements. Supply and maintain a pool of technical experts to supply conciliating support to other programs and projects.

Laboratory Technical Point of Contact with the Tank Farm contractor engineering organizations for TSCR (Tank Side Cesium Removal), DFLAW (Direct Feed Low Activity Waste), Mission Integration, Corrosion Control and Solid Phase Characterization.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry or related discipline and a minimum of 10 years of directly related experience which include laboratory work.

Desired Qualifications

A knowledge of laboratory operations, Radiological controls required by 10CFR 835, and quality assurance laboratory practices is preferred.

Working knowledge of the Hanford chemical processing plants is preferred.

Knowledge of DOE Order 5480.19, “Conduct of Operations Requirements for DOE Facilities and experience in implementation of this standard.”

Radiological laboratory work experience is preferred. Hanford site work experience is preferred.

Management experience is desired.
