The Faculty Director oversees curriculum design and assessment; course development; hiring and training adjunct faculty; and connecting with relevant industry partners. The ideal candidate has 10 years or more experience in various roles in the field of journalism and experience teaching courses related to journalism, communications, writing, communications research, public policy and the role of government and journalism in the US and globally.
The Faculty Director will have a faculty appointment (as Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of the Practice depending on qualifications and experience) and teach at least 3 courses (9 credits) each academic year. Preferred candidates should have a terminal academic degree (PhD, JD, MBA, MA, etc.) in a related field and five or more years of relevant industry and/or teaching experience.
Candidates should possess the following:
- Extensive knowledge about changes in the industry over the past 20 years.
- A strong conviction for the values and mission of journalism.
- Demonstrated ability and experience adapting approach research, writing and sourcing techniques to address new media trends.
- Track record of producing solutions to new and emerging challenges the industry faces.
- Passion for mentoring journalists.
- Strong professional network within the industry.
Faculty Directors lead the SCS degree programs through curriculum design and revision, assure student learning outcomes are met, conduct program assessments, lead adjunct faculty recruitment and hiring, and conduct industry outreach and engagement. Additionally, SCS supports faculty activities such as attendance and presentations of papers and participation on panels at academic and professional conferences, and leading symposia on issues related to their fields. SCS provides faculty support for teaching excellence and technology-mediated education.
This is a non-tenure track, full-time, benefits-eligible, renewable, twelve-month faculty appointment. Screening of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
