The Lead of Sourcing Excellence, Contracting will be responsible for overseeing the contracting process within Global Procurement Function. It is necessary for this individual to understand the product lifecycle process, impact on the organization (both short and long term) and have knowledge of the global value chain to provide strategic industry insights and identify potential opportunities that ultimately lead to a BMS competitive advantage. This role will report directly to the Head of Sourcing Excellence and will have oversight for resources spanning across multiple teams and locations. It is key for this individual to drive effective collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders, including Business, Legal and Business Service Provider Mgmt. teams.

Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Oversee the full contracting process for sourcing excellence and ensure excellence in contract management to maximize benefits to the business, across categories
    • Manage team performing third-party contracting activities as part of the sourcing execution process, which ensuring:
      • Completion of any required pre-transactional steps and prior endorsement
      • Appropriate due diligence by assessing risk mitigating options, and identifying business issues
      • Correct deal terms and conditions and determining the contract timing need
      • Appropriate legal support as needed to ensure compliance with company standards
      • Timely completion of contracts in alignment to global category strategies
    • Ensure key agreements and contracts are reviewed to protect and advance the company’s interest
    • Define performance targets for contracting process and drive accountability against targets
    • Work with Strategy & Process teams to identify and build leading technology solutions to enhance the contracting process
  • Build and continuously improve an industry-leading contracting capability within Global Procurement:
    • Conduct and authorize training to provide opportunities for professional development and further expansion of contracting skillsets
    • Ensure clear definition of thresholds and hand-offs between Business, Legal and other involved parties
    • Partner with functional / regional category teams to maintain effective contracting procedures and ensure adherence to regional/global category strategies

  • Ensure compliance with contracting and procurement policies/procedures consistent with government regulations and BMS company policy
    • Work with appropriate parties (e.g., legal) to ensure all templates and procedures are consistent with changes in laws, regulations and business practices
    • Identify and escalate any contractual risks from third-party agreements in accordance to the Risk Management Framework

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S./B.A.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of business experience
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of multi-disciplined procurement experience, or relevant experience
  • Minimum of 3 years Pharmaceutical Procurement experience, or working directly with Pharmaceutical Procurement teams or relevant experience
  • Experience leading and participating on cross-functional and/or global teams
  • Managerial experience including managing teams of senior professionals and managers and establishing performance expectations
  • Internal stakeholder management, data/information management, category management, process redesign and continuous improvement expertise, project management and performance measurement skills
  • Procurement process knowledge, contract management, financial analysis, market analysis, supplier analysis, supplier diversity, supplier management, technology utilization, strategic planning and integrated supply chain experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S./M.B.A.
  • Professional certifications (e.g. CPM, CPIM).
  • 5 years Pharmaceutical Procurement experience
  • Membership in Professional Associations, e.g. ISM
