Position Overview
Reporting directly to the Managing Director of Training and Development, the Director of Airport Operations/Cargo Training is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic vision, and fiscal aspects of training in support of the Airport Operations and Cargo Divisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the team vision and support the division objectives with clearly defined goals and accountabilities; drive for performance utilizing transparent management style and effective performance management
- Responsible for ensuring that training delivery is effective, consistent and up to established standards and that both regulatory and business requirements are being met in a consistent manner
- Develops effective measures and ensures appropriate mechanisms exist to continually measure, evaluate, and improve program content and delivery, that results in professional, high quality and cost-effective training programs. Responsible for ensuring the delivery of training programs that support key business initiatives.
- Project management and implementation of training and development programs and events including annual calendar, project plans, resource planning, communication development, and budget management
- Ensures curriculum is current and relevant and that delivery methods foster development of AO/Cargo staff. Evaluates and recommends vendor tools and resources to enable quality, timeliness of delivery and effectiveness of training. Develops Cost/Benefit Analysis of recommended solutions
- Stays abreast of industry trends, tools and technologies, keeping innovation in the forefront. Continuously focus on improving processes and practices that create the most value. Drive the team to measure and continuously improve critical processes
- Ensure that all training is conducted in accordance with company policies and directives and that they comply with the appropriate government and regulatory agencies.
- Maintain close working relationships with appropriate internal and external organizations, including: AO, Cargo, FAA, A4A, vendors, Flight, Inflight, and Tech Ops Divisions, HR, Safety, and IAM
- Directly supervise the Assistant Managers, AO/Cargo Training, and the Instructors responsible for AO/Cargo training, and ensure that they have the skills and tools required to perform their duties
- Ensure all Instructors are uniformly complying with AO and Cargo Division, T&D, and FAA policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Accountable for the performance management of AO/Cargo Training professionals
- Oversee the development and publication of all training materials for the training curriculum, training aids, training manuals, and instructor guides
- Oversee the annual budget requirements for the organization
- Professional development, and other related duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a technical discipline, business or education, or equivalent experience
- 5 years management experience leading individual employees and teams as well as proven effective, people-focused leadership skills
- Experienced in writing and presenting business cases, project management, financial analysis, and process improvement
- Experience managing departmental budgets
- Highly detailed, organized, and efficient with outstanding group presentation and communication skills
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal relationship and customer-focus skills; works effectively in teams, work groups, task teams, and independently
- Demonstrated competence with technology
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective professional partnerships at all levels of a company and with companies, organizations, people outside of HA; credible; consistently presents self professionally (verbally, non-verbally, in writing, and through behaviors)
- Demonstrated competence in effective project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines and budget guidelines
- Creative, able to create a motivational environment for employees; proven ability to affect/create positive change
- Highly enthusiastic, positive-minded, customer focused, service-oriented
- Self-starter requiring ability to work independently, driving personal and team priorities for success
- Preference for working collaboratively in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to manage a detailed operating budget
- Available to travel up to 15% of the time
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience, in training and/or education delivery; experience working within a highly regulated environment, such as an airline or other highly regulated industry
- 8+ years of managing multiple, diverse employees and teams with a track record of growing leaders and independent thinkers
- Experience in large aircraft operations, either in AO, Cargo, or Operations
- Six Sigma Certification or Conitnuous Improvement experience
- Well-versed in technology solutions
- Experience with instructional design and/or AQP
- Previous teaching/instructional experience in adult education programs
