Full Job Description
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students provides visionary oversight and administrative direction for Community Life, including the Dean of Student’s Office, the Office of Residence Life and the Office of Accessibility. Facilitates mission development, goal establishment and objective setting for reporting offices and programs. Hires, supervises, trains, develops and evaluates staff. Guides staff in aligning unit-level priorities, goals and learning outcomes with university and divisional strategic directions and outcomes. Oversees budget and resource management for assigned units in coordination with the Director of Student Affairs Operations. Ensures appropriate financial controls and exercises appropriate risk management for programs. Serves as a liaison to faculty, staff and administration and as an advocate for student rights and responsibilities. Serves on the Student Affairs Executive Leadership Team and coordinates with other members on divisional risk management and emergency response protocols. Serves as back-up to the Vice President for Student Affairs on the university Executive Critical Incident Management Team. Advises faculty and staff on appropriate course of actions regarding student safety. Serves as second in command for the Division of Student Affairs. Serves as Deputy Title IX Coordinator and responds to issues of sexual misconduct related to students. Oversees the development of student policies and compliance. Provides leadership to the Academic Integrity Process. Serves as a liaison between Student Affairs and university departments, students, faculty, staff and the community to address issues affecting the campus and the student experience. Provides campus visibility during evenings and weekends and supports special events.

Master’s degree in relevant field and 10 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education/student affairs required. Doctorate preferred. Experience must include managing multiple departments; supervising professional staff; and at least five years in student conduct, behavior management and/or residence life and housing, as well as experience with retention and student success initiatives, Title IX compliance, sexual misconduct prevention, collaborative leadership, case management software, project management, and innovative problem solving. Knowledge of student development and issues that impact student services, behavior and university policy; higher education law and public policy trends; assessment and data analysis techniques; ADA/disability regulations; threat assessment; risk management; and regulatory compliance. Ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with university administrators, staff, faculty and students; simultaneously plan, organize and coordinate multiple projects; collaborate with a wide variety of internal and external constituencies; and interpret and apply complex guidelines, rules and regulations. Strong managerial skills, including the ability to train, mentor and motivate staff at all levels. Excellent interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.

Salary up to $95,832; actual salary may be negotiable depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
