Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Business Affairs, the Associate Vice President for Finance is responsible for the university’s budgeting and financial accounting functions. Prepares the university’s annual operating budget. Oversees preparation of annual financial reports in accordance with generally accepted U.S. accounting principles. Serves as a primary contact for the Board of Trustees Finance Committee Chair and attends all Board meetings. Accountable for the university’s Budget, Controller’s, Payroll and Student Financial Services functions. Develops, implements and directs the strategic plan of operations for areas of responsibility. Develops, reviews and revises policies and procedures. Confers with executive and administrative officers, department heads, faculty and staff to ensure compliance with procedures regarding the university’s fiscal affairs. Hires, trains and supervises staff. Serves as university liaison to the Office of State Budget and as a primary contact for the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education Finance Division. Responsible for the submission of fiscal reports to external parties and various other financial reports required by the Commission on Higher Education, as well as those required by general provisions of the annual South Carolina Appropriations Bill.

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance or accounting or professional certification with experience as a professional accountant or auditor, including at least three years of experience supervising accounting, finance and/or auditing employees, required. CPA or MBA with concentration in accounting highly desired. Expert knowledge of government accounting principles and best practices. Knowledge of South Carolina accounting regulations. Proven ability to build and manage complex budgets and oversee financial reporting; interpret and apply complex guidelines, rules and regulations; prepare effective analytical reports and presentations; lead and manage teams and projects; work collaboratively with a diverse group of constituents; and exercise judgment and discretion in confidential matters. Excellent presentation and communication skills.
