Job Summary

The Vice President Head of Patents is responsible for leading defensive and offensive IP strategy. Provides support to business functions within Biosimilars unit. Serves as Head of Patents for Fresenius Kabi SwissBioSim GmbH. Reports to Senior Vice President BU Biosimilars in Switzerland.

Responsibilities

• Lead Defensive IP Strategy: Globally responsible for IP strategies to clear a path to market for biosimilar assets; reduce risk at launch and ensure competitive launch timelines.
  
• Lead Offensive IP strategy: Build a portfolio of patents to protect innovations of the business unit (BU) and assert IP portfolio against competitor companies in line with business goals. Bring value from BU IP through patent license and settlement agreements.
  
• Support Business Functions within Biosimilars Unit: Align the IP strategy and risk across all functions of the BU. Ensure efficient cross-functional activities.
  
• Member of the BEC & PDC: Distilling complex IP situations upon which business decisions can be taken. Serving as Head of Patents for Fresenius Kabi SwissBioSim GmbH
  
• Managing People and Budget: Designing initial set up, processes and recruitment of IP team. Coaching & developing direct reports. Responsible for IP budget.
  

Main Interfaces

• Fresenius Kabi board & Divisional Head, Head of Biosimilars, Biosimilars Executive Committee (BEC), Biosimilars Operations Committee (BOC) & Product Development Committee (PDC), Regional Intellectual Property teams, Commercial community of Regional and Marketing Units, All Functional Units within the BU, including Project Management Team, R&D Team, Business Development Team, Commercial Team, Finance Team, Legal Team
  

Externally :

• Outside Counsel from over 30 countries, Trade Associations, Intellectual Property community of competitor companies
  

Requirements:

National qualification as a patent attorney and patent litigator

• European Patent Attorney (EPA)
• PhD in the field of life science
• Undergraduate degree in the field of life science
• Excellent command of English

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in pharmaceutical IP
