We are currently seeking a Vice President, Health Outcome & Biotechnology Solutions; located in Columbus, OH.


JOB SUMMARY

The Health Outcomes & Biotechnology Solutions (HOBS) Vice President will be responsible for leading project execution, staff development, business performance, and strategy development/execution within a newly created segment of Battelle’s Health Business portfolio that integrates health research, data analytics/application development, and applied computational and experimental biotechnologies. Under the direction of the Health Business Unit General Manager, the successful candidate will manage the group in creating and delivering value to existing and new government and commercial clients. The successful candidate will develop plans outlining the strategic approach for generating business growth, which may span multiple business lines/areas of interest including: solutions for healthcare quality improvement, health analytics, environmental health, personalized medicine, science-informed and data-driven prediction of outcomes, and health policy and program evaluation. The successful candidate will manage the overall financial performance of the business line as well as significant resources and staff in multiple locations. This will include successful tracking of well-crafted business plans against realized business performance metrics to ensure successful operating results through financial management of gross business volume, capital equipment and operating budgets.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Incumbent will evaluate capabilities within the three (3) segments within HOBS to develop and implement tactical and strategic portfolio growth plans.
  • Develops and implements strategic and operational business plans which define the market focus and operational services provided to government and commercial clients. Strategy will include linking clinical data with EHRS to derive valuable and timely insights, solutions for healthcare quality improvement, enabling personalized medicine as the new standard of care, and data driven prediction of outcomes.
  • Ensures the overall financial performance of the assigned group including attaining gross business volume, net income, and intellectual property goals as well as maximizing profitability, cost control and investment decisions. Manages resource expenditures including labor utilization, capital equipment, marketing, and internal research and development budgets.
  • Works closely with senior leadership and support services to maximize value of contracts and investments, though well-crafted intellectual property capture and exit strategies and creative business models.
  • Plans, initiates and performs marketing activities to identify potential clients, new business segments, and market needs to maximize business opportunities.
  • Applies diligence in lead identification and maturation, including business pipeline management, opportunity capture, proposal development, and bid/no bid decision processes. Establishes pricing policy and specific pricing practices.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels and skill mix commensurate with the business. Directs and organizes staff assignments to various projects.
  • Determines human resources recruiting and hiring strategies for the business line; establishes performance goals and appraises performance of direct reports and provides opportunities for career development. Manages relationships of staff and support functions. Ensures availability of necessary training and mentor opportunities for staff.
  • Works with Division Managers to ensure staff conduct research, development, and technical activities within the established business ethics, safety and quality policies and procedures. Reviews and approves, as necessary, proposals, reports and articles.
  • Directs efforts to produce efficient sales results and assures that sales investments are consistent with the BMI strategic thrusts.
  • Works across Battelle market sectors, global businesses and national laboratories to ensure continuity and coordination in the areas of business development, client management, program management and opportunity expansion. Plans effective teaming arrangements, establishes shared accountabilities and shared returns, and monitors results.
  • Manages facility and equipment needs including space requirements, new facility and modification decisions, and procurement for home office and offsite locations.
THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, statistics or related relevant field with at least 15+ years’ experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced business, technical, or doctoral degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise and defined network in health policy, healthcare quality improvement, health or healthcare analytics, clinical research, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience leading science and technology-based organization with annual revenue over $10M
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with top management internally and with client organizations, subcontractors, consultants and staff.
  • Critical human relation skills to understand, select, develop and motivate others.
  • Experience managing and supervising staff and demonstrated ability to lead others in the achievement of goals.
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
