Vice President, Actuarial Research Leader, Long Term Care

YOUR ROLE
In this role, you will provide thought leadership as a member of the Long Term Care (LTC) Actuarial Senior Staff and the LTC Closed Block Operating Committee, with specific responsibility for the Experience and Projection teams. This role builds relationships and works closely with other areas in LTC Actuarial, Corporate Actuarial, the In Force Actions (IFA) area, Financial Planning & Analysis, Investments, Pricing, IT and Closed Block Management. Teams reporting to this role are responsible for LTC actuarial assumptions for all purposes, and actuarial projections for purposes of reserve adequacy and other analysis. This role coaches and mentors in order to develop team members from both technical and business acumen perspectives.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage LTC Projections, Experience and Experience System Teams
- Partner with LTC leadership to evaluate emerging experience and, where appropriate, propose updates to go forward assumptions
- Partner with LTC Actuarial Production Team Leader and IT Leadership to prioritize model changes and data initiatives
- Develop team members both from a technical and business acumen perspective; create a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing culture
- Communicate key metrics with multiple stakeholders including internal management, auditors and regulators
- Support strategic initiatives, as requested
- Provide thought leadership on how to improve tools and processes to free up resources to focus more on analytics and less on process
- Ensure comprehensive but also timely peer reviews / UAT of model changes
- Oversee the LTC Experience Team’s review and refinements of actuarial assumptions and A/E (Experience basis) report development and production
- Oversee the LTC Projection Team’s production of quarterly and annual projections while ensuring a robust control environment is maintained
- Oversee the LTC Experience Systems Team’s development of new experience database and tools
- Partner with Risk Team to improve Economic Capital methodologies
- Partner with Investment Team to analyze investment and hedging strategies
- Partner with LTC Actuarial Production Team Leader to ensure compliance with emerging regulatory and financial reporting frameworks
- Prepare Q&A documents in support of quarterly earnings releases
- Improve documentation/metadata
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
- BS/BA Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics and/or related major
- Fellow of Society of Actuaries
- 15+ Years of experience in the actuarial field, prefer LTC experience
- Experience managing actuarial teams
- Strong presentation skills and experience presenting to senior leadership
- Ability to manage concurrent deadlines and multiple priorities
- Strong project management skills
- Understanding of GAAP, Statutory and Tax financial reporting requirements
- Experience with Actuarial projection & valuation systems (i.e. AXIS, PolySystems, Prophet, PTS, ALFA)
