The Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer (SVP/COO) is responsible for providing leadership and direction of EvergreenHealthâs hospital based services and outpatient ancillary services.
Primary Job Duties
- Serves as a key and integral member of the senior leadership team.
- Develops, recommends and oversees the short and long-range vision and strategic plan, objectives, policies, budgets, and operating plans for the hospital in conjunction with Chief Strategy Officer, Chief Finance Officer and Chief Nursing Officer.
- Develops and implements annual organizational goals and operating plans that align with the overall strategic plan and objectives of EvergreenHealth.
- Proactively fosters a strong, collegial and sustainable partnership with the medical staff to ensure a high level of physician engagement and integration.
- In conjunction with the Chief Strategy Officer, develops, implements, and oversees an effective service specialty line model of care across the organization. This includes co-responsibility for the specialty physicians.
- Provides oversight of hospital operations and outpatient ancillary departments.
- Maintains oversight for all contracts, including the contract approval process.
- Develops and facilitates implementation of programs designed to meet identified patient care needs.
- Champions and serves as the driving force within the organization to improve efficiency and quality utilizing LEAN principles as a cultural process improvement philosophy and tool.
- Leads, promotes, and contributes to efforts to improve overall organizational performance and productivity.
- Initiates, implements and supports processes and programs for quality of care, patient safety, patient and employee engagement and effective utilization of resources.
- In partnership with the CFO and other senior leaders, helps assesses and prioritizes capital expenditures for equipment, and reallocating as needed.
- Promotes development of leaders by assessing performance and providing education/training opportunities.
- In partnership with Human Resources, participates in major or significant decisions or changes involving union contracts.
- Participates in personal and professional development by: joining pertinent and prominent associations; conducting lectures; and/or serving on prominent healthcare related panels.
Required for the position:
- Masterâs degree in business, healthcare administration, nursing or related field
- At least 10 years of progressive hospital or healthcare executive level experience, preferably in an integrated healthcare environment.
- Significant understanding of all aspects of acute care including, outpatient ambulatory and ancillary service delivery systems, physician engagement and effective physician relationships.
- Solid experience in building healthcare organizations and committed to quality, patient satisfaction and patient safety.
- Demonstrated results in achieving top quality, operational excellence and financial results.
- Knowledge of operational, administrative and management principles.
- Knowledge of economic models influencing business strategies.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply principles of strategic planning.
- Ability to understand, assess and respond to changes in the healthcare market.
- Ability to provide leadership and direction.
Desired for the position:
- Experience as a senior leader within healthcare or prior experience as a COO.
- Experience working within a multi hospital system.
- Experience in applying Lean principles to improve operational performance.
