Overview

The Senior Packaging Engineer is responsible for the packaging of all desktop applications and following of the packaging process. Qualified professionals will need to have experience in packaging applications as MSI, App-V and scripted solutions for distribution via Configuration Manager (CM). The professional should also have knowledge of CM requirements, Global Conditions, Detection Methods, dependencies and supersedence.

What You’ll Do:

• Leveraging hands-on understanding and experience, provide professional and securely developed Windows Installer compliant (MSI) and App-V (5.x) sequencing/streaming technologies across both Windows 7 and Windows 10 platforms
• Significant experience in the design and implementation of pre-/post-installation, installation, uninstall, upgrade and patch packaging and scripting in an enterprise-scale environment with heavily controlled end-user profiles (GPO, privilege management, etc.)
• Competence in using relevant Windows and third-party tools such as: InstallShield, Component Checker, Process Explorer, Process Monitor, Orca, MSI Diff, Registry editor, Capture technologies (snapshot), Microsoft Application Sequencers etc
• Understand associated infrastructure management components (AD configuration, Group Policy settings and SCCM applications/packages)
• Support day to day packaging efforts in team focused environment
• Creation and submission of required documentation and other reports associated for the applications

Skills You’ll Need:

• Extensive software packaging experience using InstallShield, RayPack, Wise, Advanced Installer, InstallRite or similar and Microsoft App-V sequencer
• Strong understanding of packaging tools and the benefits of unscripted unattended deliverables solutions
• Wide technical knowledge of Microsoft client Operating Systems including Windows 7 & 10 and their use in global enterprise environments. Good analytical and problem-solving skills across the Windows client environment
• Working knowledge of Active Directory, and Group Policy management as it applies to application packaging and deliverables management
• Application Packaging in an Enterprise environment. Configuration of applications in a Multi-language globally diverse environment

Skills That Will Help You Excel:

• Preferred experience with package distribution methodologies in Microsoft Configuration Manager (if not CM, extensive experience in one of Altiris, KACE, LANDESK, Marimba etc)
• Educated to Bachelors or Master’s degree level in Computer Science, or a related discipline, from an accredited college or university
• Relevant Microsoft or related professional certification beneficial
