The non-profit KIPP Foundation trains and develops outstanding educators to lead KIPP schools, provides tools, resources, and training for excellent teaching and learning, promotes innovation, and facilitates the exchange of insights and ideas within the KIPP network and with partners including: other charters, districts, colleges and universities, and non-profit organizations across the country.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The KIPP Foundation is seeking a strategic and visionary leader with a demonstrated commitment to racial justice and the ability to translate a network-wide strategy into a people strategy. As the Senior Director, Talent Development you will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive strategy to support KIPP regions in best-in-class talent planning, recruitment, development and retention. You will manage a team that builds the capacity of regional leaders to recruit and develop their talent, as well as the direct delivery of leadership development programs, including KIPP School Leadership Programs (KSLP) and Leadership Coaching.
This position reports to the National Director, Regional Systems.
You will lead:
Strategy Development
- Build on KIPP’s people model framework to integrate and align the full talent spectrum with KIPP’s organizational goals, inclusive of planning and forecasting, attracting, recruiting, selecting, onboarding, developing, retaining, promoting, and engaging talent
- Craft KIPP’s vision for a comprehensive people model that supports KIPP regions to meet their student outcome and growth goals, while centering equity and anti-racism
- Design an assessment to monitor the quality of talent and leadership development practices across the network
- Refine KIPP’s people model framework based on impact data, feedback from KIPP regions and rigorous evaluation of each policy’s outcomes on equity
Management and Execution
- Scope and outline long-term and annual strategies to drive highly effective regional talent health and in-region leadership development practices, in alignment with the priorities outlined in KIPP’s 2025 strategy. Over the next 3-5 years, the body of work will include:
- Supporting regions in the articulation of their comprehensive talent strategies and talent model, especially via leadership development of regional talent leaders
- Training regional recruiters to ensure that all KIPP schools are fully hired by the last day of school
- Partnering with regions to build in-region talent and leadership development systems that create robust and equitable talent pipelines. Provide strategic services to KIPP regions that support their in-region leadership development efforts and which leverage the evolution of KSLP. Over the next 3-5 years, this will include:
- Developing a KIPP-wide executive leadership pipeline and preparation program (to develop upcoming C-suite leaders)
- Overseeing the delivery of our KIPP School Leadership Program and other programming offerings
- Providing high-quality leadership coaching direct to KIPP regional and school leaders
- Crafting and delivering a new vision for national convenings that build KIPP-network-wide culture and connection
- Spread KIPP’s talent best practices across the education industry, inclusive of overseeing the KIPP Leadership Development Fellowship Program and capitalizing on opportunities for external sharing
- Progress monitor delivery of supports using impact data, feedback from KIPP regions, and an anti-racism approach to evaluate and adjust strategies and supports
Team Leadership
- Actively lead and manage the Talent and Leadership Development team to ensure cohesive execution of the team vision and collaboration across the team and the overall KIPP Foundation
- Manage the workload, resourcing and supports to team members to enable them to propel regional impact
- Drive development across the team to ensure each member of the team is flourishing and unleashing their full potential for the benefit of KIPPsters

- Strategic and systems-level visionary who can craft a strategy to translate network-wide strategy into people strategy
- Strong people leadership and management; experience building a large, cohesive team that is aligned on a common vision
- Deep commitment to racial justice with experience centering equity in driving work
- Strong stakeholder management; track record of successfully partnering with practitioners to build systems that drive outcomes
- Extremely adept and problem solving and critical thinking; able to formulate hypotheses, pilot new strategies, gather and synthesize data, evaluate impact, develop and assess alternatives and iterate on program design
- Highly knowledgeable in the field of talent & leadership development
