The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is the University’s chief academic officer who provides leadership and oversight for all academic programs and centers; coordinates strategic planning and initiatives, promotes faculty excellence in teaching, scholarship, research, and service; and expands opportunities for engagement and outreach in the local, state, national, and global spheres. The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, as a member of the President’s executive staff and cabinet, plays a central role in institutional decisions and works with Academic Affairs constituents to create and support an academic vision of excellence for the university.
Reports directly to the President.

- Earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution
- Academic credentials to merit appointment at the rank of full professor, with a record that may include research, scholarship, external funding, and applied practice (broadly defined);
- Experience with increasing responsibility for and successful record of substantial, executive-level, academic leadership, including fiscal management and personnel responsibilities, in a complex institution;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Proven understanding of and commitment to supporting institutional diversity for faculty, students, staff, and academic programs;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to serve as an effective spokesperson for the University.
- Experience with leadership in a unionized academic organization;
- College/university classroom experience;
- Robust knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues in higher education, including enrollment management, access, accreditation, and assessment;
- Demonstrated ability to manage a complex academic organization, work effectively with diverse constituencies, and manage change;
- Success in cultivating and expanding community partnerships, alumni affairs, and university fundraising;
- Experience with institutional or academic unit-level accreditation processes;
- Strong skills in academic program planning for both traditional and non-traditional students;
- Record of accomplishments in recruitment and retention of outstanding faculty, staff, and students;
- Experience with shared governance and collective bargaining agreements;
- Demonstrated ability to lead academic and educational programs with measurable accomplishments;
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies;
- Ability to interact with a broad range of public settings; a consistent, collegial, and transparent leadership style;
- Ability to think strategically, to prioritize effectively, and to act decisively;
- Strong skills to academic program planning for both traditional and non-traditional students.
