Due to an increase in awarded projects, Place Services, Inc. is looking to hire a Project Manager to oversee the management of multiple small special projects. These are fast-moving projects that are scattered across the nation. This is a great position for a junior project manager that is ready to take the next step in his/her career.
Project Manager Job Description:
Commercial flooring project managers plan, coordinate, and supervise the installation of projects from start to finish. This job involves tasks such as monitoring the installation process to ensure the projects are completed to schedule, negotiating contracts, and maintaining budgets. Commercial flooring project managers work full-time but may need to work additional hours to respond to delays, emergencies, or suppliers.

Collaborate with Teams to Outline the Project
Commercial flooring project managers work with architects, engineers, and clients to determine the specifications of a project. They plan the installation operations and schedule each phase of the process to make sure the project is completed to the set deadline.
Negotiate Contracts
A key part of this job is negotiating with external vendors. These project managers amend the contract where they can to reach a profitable agreement that all parties are satisfied with and one that works within the set budget.
Determine Necessary Resources
These project managers determine the resources required for each aspect of the project, such as equipment needed, materials, and labor, assessing each of these for budget limitations. They make sure that the equipment, sub-contractors, and materials are scheduled in accordance with the project’s needs and are on-site as needed.
Allocate Responsibilities and Tasks
Commercial flooring project managers coordinate with other trades and vendors when deciding how and when the flooring scope of a project is best implemented. Throughout the project build, they supervise the work and performance of the team, providing advice and guidance where they can, as well as ensuring that health and safety standards are met.
Prepare Reports
Commercial flooring project managers regularly assess the progress of the project and the performance of all involved. They prepare detailed reports for key stakeholders that outline the successes as well as any issues that arise throughout the development of the building.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities necessary to do the job:
Commercial flooring project managers have an in-depth understanding of construction methods and principles, tools, and equipment. These team-players also have a familiarity of health and safety regulations. The following abilities are required:
- Negotiation Skills – Commercial flooring project managers are skilled at negotiating, whether it’s the price of materials, labor costs, and contract terms and conditions.
- Time Management – Commercial flooring projects hinge on tight deadlines and strict schedules, so commercial flooring project managers need to be organized to manage deadlines for themselves and workers on a project.
- Leadership Skills – This job requires the ability to assign tasks to installation workers, subcontractors, and other team members, so these managers need to have great leadership and delegation skills.
- Problem-Solving Abilities – Commercial flooring project managers handle unexpected issues and hold-ups and solve any challenges that arise over the course of a build, such as materials not arriving on time.
- Communication Skills – These professionals must communicate complex information and technical details to all parties involved. Including, but not limited to, Owners, Sub-contractors, Suppliers, Store Management, and Third-Party Contractors. Ensuring that all members of the team are aware of deadlines, schedule, and quality and safety requirements.
