Located at in the Apparel Plant at Fluvanna Correctional Center in Troy, VA, this position provides critical support to the mission of Virginia Correctional Enterprises, which is focused on providing meaningful jobs and work skills for offenders and offering quality goods and services to our customers.
The Plant Manager spearheads plant activities in apparel production, quality control, and receiving and shipping in order to meet cost-effective business objectives. Provide outstanding supervision of a high volume apparel and textile manufacturing operation and assumes responsibilities for all aspects of the plants performance while using new and existing knowledge to drum up innovative solutions to drive operational excellence and process improvement initiatives. Supervises and evaluates staff performance, and conducts evaluations and progressive discipline. Leads and champions a safety focused work environment through overseeing the safe and efficient use of equipment while exceeding all federal and state regulations. Complies with DOC and VCE safety and security and accident reporting policies and procedures, through employee training, regular reinforcement and oversight. Ensures compliance with OSHA, EPA, and facility regulations. Oversees the Materials Resource Planning (MRP), job order production, and manufacturing quality control. Possess a clear understanding of production flow, material demands, product knowledge, and department functions of a fully operational Apparel Manufacturing Facility. Fosters and maintains a high level of customer service through on-time deliveries, responsiveness to customer needs and ensuring that the quality of the shipped product meets all customer quality requirements. Creates a positive work environment that includes focus on Re-entry and a healing environment.

High School Diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license. Considerable experience and knowledge in apparel. Considerable experience in apparel equipment operation, and quality controls. Considerable Management experience. Considerable experience in managing staffing, workload capacity, determining resource needs, work process improvements, and quality improvements. Considerable experience in developing and implementing inventory and reporting systems for continuous quality improvement in a manufacturing environment. Extensive performance management skills, fiscal and budgetary controls, and fulfillment process requirements. Substantial experience handling complex logistical and physical distribution functions in a fast paced, high volume manufacturing facility. Some experience adhering to OSHA and EPA regulations. Some experience in Microsoft Office Suite, and MRP/ERP system or a comparable inventory control and customer order application system. Considerable oral and written communication skills, planning and organizing and strategic thinking.
Associate’s degree or other technical certification. Total Quality Management, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other quality program certification. Some knowledge of basic sewing skills.
