Job Description

Head of Intercontinental Region – Commercial Organization

This new position is responsible for setting the long-term strategy, planning, and execution within assigned region, to include geographic and category analytics, growth and profitability strategies, differentiated location strategies, and key partnerships, including public health agencies and distributor relationships. This leader will work cross-functionally, across the broader Gilead Commercial team and across Gilead.

Region: Asia 5 (Hong Kong, Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan), Latin America, Middle East, and Eastern Europe

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Sharp strategist who can lead an organization that is operating in a complex and very dynamic market. Address strategic opportunities and manage competing priorities; Lead the analysis, insight and direction on priorities and goals, and create and communicate the vision and overall direction; Monitor trends and evolution of the regions, markets and competitive space and adjust strategies as needed
  • Organization Development: Responsible for the development of the new Intercontinental team, including the development of operating structures, priorities, and key relationships in and out of Gilead. Build a cohesive organization and culture across a geographically-dispersed, flat team structure. This position will also be responsible for alignment within the commercial organization so the team can effectively partner with internal and external organizations.
  • Distributor Management: Lead the strategic and tactical management of distributors and develop and implement strategies that facilitate effective market access. Ensure a high level of collaboration and integration with the Commercial, Finance, and Manufacturing teams
  • Partnership Strategy: Partner with country governments and other stakeholders to develop targeted plans for high priority countries. Working with regional business partners, identify barriers to patient access and develop plans to address these. Create compelling value propositions based on health economics data; develop educational awareness programs.

Knowledge/Experience

  • 18+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry including expertise in global product strategic planning, tactical marketing, commercial policies and practices, new product planning, portfolio management and lifecycle management
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience with full responsibility for P&L and proven financial success as a GM (or GM-equivalent) across large, global market.
  • Proven general management and leadership: ability to manage, motivate and develop (coach) a team, possessing excellent interpersonal skills to lead, interact with, focus, resolve conflict and drive consensus among individuals from a variety of cultures and disciplines.
  • Global experience, specifically in emerging markets is required
  • Demonstrated ability to structure and oversee large-scale, complex partnerships
  • Track record of successfully working with the relevant government/public agency and health authorities
  • Previous experience leading a global team, preferably in a matrixed environment
  • Direct experience in strategic planning and strategic marketing in HIV, Hepatitis, CV, and/or Oncology products is preferred
  • Travel Requirement: 30%
