The Global Head of Merchandising is responsible for leadership, strategic direction and financial performance of new production creation across the National Pen product range. With the complexity and speed of our business, we need a thought leader with a quantifiable track record of success in delivering results within the promotional product industry. This role requires someone who is highly collaborative, builds strong partnerships and who can influence change while driving bottom line profits.
The Global Head of Merchandising will need to have a strong knowledge of the target market to create products customers desire, when they are most interested in buying them. As a data driven company we are seeking someone with an analytic background, an understanding of creating balanced and inspiring products. You will have a deep insight into trends and the products our customers want to purchase with goal of achieving profitability goals.
Reporting to the CEO, you will work closely with various internal stakeholders in Planning, Marketing, Creative, Ecommerce, Supply Chain, Sourcing and other Centre of Excellence partners to drive the merchandising strategies to create an exceptional experience for our customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Own product strategy and roadmap
    • Monitor industry trends and promotional efforts (featured products, categories, offers) of top competitors in core markets
    • Identify product needs to match online search intent
    • Analyze and fill product line gaps through dropship partners or new product development
    • Optimize product selection based on traffic and conversion
  • Product lifecycle management
    • Product introduction – communicate upcoming product launches and coordinate with channel owners to create cohesive marketing plans
    • End of life – identify products that should be phased out; coordinate marketing and pricing strategy to liquidate inventory
  • Support product marketing – how can we best market a product
    • Identify attributes/features to call out for each product
    • Share information on how competitors promote comparable products (names, features)
    • Provide “product story” recommendations – what type of customer would purchase this product; what should our angle be
    • Collaborate with Content and Site Merch team to create consistent photography and video guidelines to best present the product
    • Negotiate special offers to promote new vendor products
  • Continuous competitive pricing analysis to maximize margin and conversion rate
  • Product sales analysis
    • Monitor product and category sales; collaborate with Site Merch to optimize product views and conversion
    • Margin analysis – Provide recommendations on products to feature to maximize contribution
  • Streamline product workflows
    • New product load process
    • QA of online product presentation
    • Temporary disables due to inventory changes
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Senior-level experience in a merchandising role, promotional product knowledge a plus
  • Strategic, analytical and creative thinker
  • Acute sense of brand and customer insight
  • Proven talent to envisage and interpret trends
  • Strong verbal/written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to multi-task with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to manage projects individually and work will as part of a team
  • Goal orientated: ability to stay focused on delivering results
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Experience managing global teams and producing impact individually
  • Enjoy travel, both domestic and international
