The staff provide specialized and dependable technology solutions to support student affairs staff in their support of student success and program effectiveness. What We Want
The Director of IT provides strategic leadership to the department, as well as technology direction for the Division of Student Affairs. In addition, the Director will serve as an Assistant CIO and serve on the Texas A&M Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer’s leadership team. We are seeking an IT professional with experience guiding and developing people to perform their best. The successful director is able to build positive relationships in and out of the Division, collaborate with a variety of entities, and maintain high standards and practices. The Director of IT will develop strong working relationships with department-level leadership to ensure that IT strategies and directions are consistent with the mission of the DSA and will collaborate with a team of key constituents in planning, developing and deploying new technologies and services. The Director will determine long-term information needs and develop an overall consolidation strategy by estimating, forecasting, and anticipating requirements; aligning monetary resources; developing action plans; and analyzing results. Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ten years of information technology experience, with some supervisory and/or leadership experience
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in related field
- 15 years of information technology experience, with some supervisory and/or leadership experience
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
- ITIL certifications
- Project management certifications
Responsibilities:
- Strategically leads the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) Department of Information Technology (DoIT) to ensure high quality service to the diverse end users in the Division. Develops, plans, prioritizes, and executes the information technology vision, goals, and strategic initiatives that support the long-term goals, mission, and vision of the Division of Student Affairs.
- Manages the overall IT budget. Hires, develops, evaluates, recognizes, and retains a highly-qualified team. Leads and develops staff skills and knowledge to provide exceptional service to the Division of Student Affairs end users. Uses sound assessment practices to determine improvements in staff performance and strategic direction.
- Makes key contributions to the formulation of the Division’s digital strategies. Proactively advises the VPSA and Division Leadership on the emerging technologies and digital trends that most relevant to the Division’s goals and evolving needs.
- Helps determine parameters, priorities, and risks for enterprise-wide IT initiatives. Develop an IT vision, strategy, and roadmaps and lead the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) Department of Information Technology (DoIT) and department partners in effective execution. Builds strong relationships with departments across the Division and develops a detailed understanding of their issues, challenges and opportunities. Implement the most appropriate and effective IT organizational design to support and engage with the departments. Ensure transparency and collaboration between the DoIT and the departments.
- Reporting to the Texas A&M Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, participate in the CIO’s extended leadership team and act as the formal liaison between the DSA and the Division of Information Technology, representing both the needs of the division as well as remaining in alignment with the University’s IT strategic plan, Standard Administrative Procedures, and other University IT best practices.
- Represent the Division of Information Technology in meetings, workshops or training sessions. Serve on one or more of the CIO’s IT governance committees.
- Manages coordination across DSA network enterprises and oversees the development of standards, systems, and best practices. Develops and recommends policies and practices. Ensures compliance with university requirements, including data security. Establishes processes for effective and efficient service delivery across the Division.
- Coordinates the IT Governance Council. Coordinates the DSA IT liaisons’ communication, planning, and meetings. Manages special projects and attends meetings as the IT representative for the DSA. Provide updates to the Office of the Vice President on Division IT priorities. Performs other duties as assigned.
