Overview

Bring your skills as an experienced litigator to a growing Fortune 500 retail company and certified Great Place to Work! As the Director, Counsel – Litigation, you’ll work with diverse functional areas throughout the company, serving as a strategic partner in providing day-to-day counseling and reputational risk management. You’ll handle matters that span the company’s civil and regulatory litigation docket, as well as internal investigations, and manage the company’s third-party subpoena docket.

A minimum of 3+ years of relevant litigation experience at a large law firm and/or corporate legal department is required for this role. JD from a highly accredited law school is required. Must be a member of a State Bar with the ability to obtain New Jersey in-house certification if not admitted in New Jersey.

Major Duties and Responsibilities include:

• Manage all aspects of assigned litigation and disputes, including alternative dispute resolution methods. Counsel is involved in all stages of litigation, including: litigation strategy; reviewing pleadings, motions, and briefs; and all other litigation documents
• Manage third-party subpoena docket, including negotiations with issuing counsel; coordination of document collection, review, and production
• Oversee outside counsel, including management of litigation budget
• Collaborate frequently with business partners to develop litigation strategy and ensure goal alignment across cross-functional teams
• Provide rapid, practical, business-oriented advice to other legal team members and directly to internal clients
• Proactively work to resolve potential legal matters through investigation to resolution, where appropriate
• Devise and manage litigation-related, scalable processes and procedures to navigate commonly encountered legal issues
• Ensure the company’s litigation is conducted to the highest ethical standards
